Nearly 600 Exhibitors on Hand for Opening of FILMART
FILMART One of 10 Entertainment Expo Hong Kong Multimedia Events

HONG KONG, Mar 21, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - The Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) opened today with close to 600 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions on hand, a new exhibitor record. Asia's major entertainment industry market, and one of the top three events of its kind in the world, continues through 24 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The Chinese mainland's presence continues to grow, with more than 130 exhibitors in Hong Kong for the 15th edition of FILMART.

Inaugural US Pavilion

For the first time, FILMART features a pavilion from the United States. More than 20 American companies are taking part in the pavilion, organised by the Independent Film & TV Alliance. FILMART also includes a first-time pavilion from Cambodia and a pan-European pavilion. France, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam are hosting country pavilions as well.

Co-Production Spotlight

Also debuting is the "Co-production Lab Hong Kong," organised by Ateliers du Cinea Europen (ACE) and Sinapses Asia Ltd, with support from the HKTDC, the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum and other organisations, including the European Union's Media International.

About 20 producers from Asia and Europe will take part in the four-day workshop. The event will feature panel discussions, individual pitching, consulting sessions, market presentations and advice from experts. About 300 screenings and more than 60 seminars and networking events will also be held.

Tune in to TV World

TV World turns five at FILMART 2011, with 180 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions here to buy and sell content. That's up 15 per cent over 2010. The theme of this year's TV World International Forum, which takes place this afternoon, is "New Media, New Technology - New Prospects for the TV Industry." Senior industry professionals from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and elsewhere in Asia will take part in the Forum.

Digital Entertainment

More than 140 companies from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and beyond are exhibiting at FILMART's Animation and Digital Entertainment World. Cambodia and Indonesia are first-time exhibitors. Animation and Digital Entertainment Day, 23 March, features an afternoon conference, "Advances in Digital Production: What's Next for 3D and Visual Effects," along with a variety of industry events.

Entertainment Expo

FILMART is part of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, which turns seven this year. Counting 10 events covering film, TV, digital entertainment and music, Entertainment Expo continues through 17 April.

The Expo's opening ceremony takes place this evening in the Grand Hall Foyer of the HKCEC and will be followed by the Asian Film Awards Presentation Ceremony.
