BEIJING, July 14, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - According to the market research firm China-telecommunications.com, in the second quarter of 2011, the global PC shipments grew 2.6%. Due to the economic downturn and consumers' preference for smart phones and Apple's iPad tablet, the growth rate of PC in the second quarter is slightly lower than expected. China-telecommunications.com had forecast that the global PC shipments in the second-quarter would grow 2.9%.

According to China-telecommunications.com, HP continues to be the world's number one PC vendor, accounting for 18.1% of the global market share. Dell ranked the second with a market share of 12.9%. Lenovo moved up to the third place, taking a market share of 12.2%.

China-telecommunications.com's analyst said that the global PC shipments in the second quarter were 84.4 million units. The sales growth of Lenovo in the U.S. helps it to exceed Acer. Acer ranked the fourth now. The sales of netbooks in the U.S. market in the second quarter declined by 4.2%. The sales of Apple's Mac in the U.S. market in the second-quarter grew by nearly 15%, which enable Apple to become the third largest U.S. PC vendor, accounting for 10.7% of U.S. market share.
