Over 6,700 industry professionals gather in Malaysia for annual power industry event |
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - POWER-GEN Asia and co-located Renewable Energy World Asia, the region's premier conference and exhibition for the power generation, renewable and alternative energy and transmission & distribution industries, enjoyed a record attendance of over 6,700 power industry professionals in attendance in Malaysia.
Converging on Kuala Lumpur to meet, share ideas and enhance their knowledge and skills in a high quality conference programme, over 700 delegates learned about new technologies, opportunities and strategies developing in the region.
Of particular interest were the nuclear power breakout sessions, which saw two panel discussions of nuclear specialists talk about nuclear power generation post-Fukushima and how the industry can move forward.
Panelist Kazuaki Matsui, Executive Director from the Japanese Institute of Applied Energy said that Japan was still optimistic about the future of nuclear power as part of the energy mix and lessons had been learnt. The consensus from the panel was that once safety and security issues are reassessed and addressed that the nuclear power option is still very much alive.
Judging by the large attendance in the sessions, there was visable interest in the debate surrounding mega trends in the Asian power market and in latest developments in large gas turbine technology as well as the prospects for carbon capture and storage.
Another aspect of the conference that was received in high acclaim were the solar and hydropower sessions in the Renewable Energy World Asia conference, demonstrating the desire for increased investment in renewable technology and the challenges the industry faces in achieving renewables targets.
The end of three days of conference presentations and discussions came to a close to great appreciation and the presentation of the Best Paper Awards.
