MSTB confident Malaysia can achieve its target to capture 5% of global software testing revenue by 2020 |
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - The Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB), an industry-driven national body for software quality assurance and promotion of software testing as a profession, believes that the Asia region can do more to tap the lucrative software testing services market.
Citing the Technavio Insights market report 2014, the Global Software Testing Services market is expected to reach US$50.68 billion in 2015, rising to US$70.98 billion by 2018, reflecting a Compounded Annual Growth Rate of 11.15%.
Pn. Mastura Abu Samah, President of MSTB, said software testing services is big business and countries in Asia should attempt to capitalise on the opportunities presented by this fast-growing industry.
Asia Pacific accounted for 22.90 percent market share in 2013 but the region is expected to hold majority share of the market in the near future, based on the increasing outsourcing environment and demand from large organisations. Malaysia as well as India, China and Vietnam have been identified as rapidly emerging as the most favoured outsourcing destinations for global companies.
"The upcoming SOFTEC Asia 2015 conference is a good platform for local and regional players to network and seek business partnership opportunities in this dynamic industry," Mastura said.
Returning for the eighth consecutive year, SOFTEC Asia 2015 will be held from 8 to 10 September 2015 at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
On the local front, the Malaysian Government has also identified software testing as a new source of economic growth in the recently-released 11th Malaysia plan. Via the Malaysian Software Testing Hub (MSTH) initiative, the Government has targeted to capture 5% of the global software testing services revenue by 2020.
According to the IDC Analysis - EPU Software Testing Roadmap Study 2013, the global software testing market, which stood at US$42 billion in 2012, has the potential to grow up to US$94 billion by 2020. The market presents real opportunity for Malaysia to carve out a niche within the market.
"The report suggested that with the right kind of investment and intervention programmes, Malaysia could rake in revenues of up to US$4.7 billion by 2020," said Pn Mastura.
The IDC Analysis - EPU Software Testing Roadmap Study 2013 was commissioned by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and jointly undertaken by International Data Corporation and MSC Management Services Sdn Bhd (MSCMS).
Having a theme of Spearheading Business of Testing, SOFTEC Asia 2015 will feature over 20 speakers from the international software testing fraternity. Collectively, they will helm more than 40 sessions comprising Tutorials/workshops, Keynote addresses, Concurrent presentations and Panel discussions.
