Gemalto's IoT Solution Powers Advanced M2M Logistics Applications and Fleet Management

AMSTERDAM, Sept 2, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, is providing secure M2M connectivity and advanced computing power for an innovative IoT solution used to optimize vehicle and fleet management. Digital Communications Technologies (DCT), a premier provider of wireless GPS logistics devices, selected Gemalto's Cinterion M2M module to provide IP-based high-speed connectivity for a state-of-the-art vehicle logistics app suite. The flexible solution improves fleet productivity, vehicle performance and logistics applications as well as smart powertrain operations and vehicle security applications. Fleet management operators can easily optimize travel routes and distribution schedules, manage temperature of the cargo, promote safe driving habits and can quickly pinpoint the vehicle's location for theft recovery.

Gemalto's Java M2M technology enables a unique IP address for each vehicle that supports DCT's secure integration with a growing selection of downloadable fleet and smart vehicle apps. Gemalto's solution collects data from sensors embedded throughout the vehicle that are measuring dynamic elements such as driver ID, GPS location, acceleration, time, distance, heading changes, speed, shock, temperature of cargo and more. Data is sent to the cloud where it is transformed into actionable intelligence and accessed via a secure web interface and mobile apps.

"With Gemalto's advanced M2M solution, our latest Syrus GPS device is flexible and powerful enough to be used for a wide variety of applications - all from a single device design," said Ignacio Escallon, Managing Director DCT. "Our longtime partner provided the technology and engineering expertise needed to help us deliver innovative features and enhanced security applications to support over 75 partners developing Syrusmart fleet apps."

"Gemalto's Cinterion Java M2M module allows the DCT device to utilize open-source APIs which greatly simplifies app development and integration," said Juan Lazcano, Head of M2M Sales for North America at Gemalto. "Without the need for unique software, firmware or script for each implementation, customers can quickly and seamlessly expand solution features and capabilities without complicated and time consuming engineering updates."
