TOKYO, Sept 14, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the installation of IP telephony systems for the InterContinental Shanghai Expo, Shanghai's newest world-class hotel, built adjacent to the World Expo site in Pudong. This project includes NEC's first installation of an enhanced hospitality IP based multi-function phone with color touch screen, the UNIVERGE IP Phone DT 750, in China.
This IP telephony system is based on NEC's UNIVERGE SV8500 communication server that supports voice, unified communications and mobility solutions. The DT750 features a variety of distinctive functions in multiple languages, including area maps, detailed information on the World Expo, and visitor information from the property management system (PMS), all available through the system's user friendly LCD touch screen. The system's variety of menus enables guests to easily access telephony features, without the need for a telephone directory, and also contributes to the efficiency for hotel operations as each service request is directed to the most appropriate section of the hotel. The multiple language shopping and tour guides also contribute to hotel revenues, as leisure travelers from throughout the world visit Shanghai. A total of 420 of the DT750 terminals are installed throughout the hotel's 400 guest rooms. In order to customize the DT750's applications, NEC has conducted joint development with FCS Computer Systems (*).
"As the closest five-star hotel to the World Expo site, we are committed to providing the very best services and facilities for all of our guests. NEC's telephony systems contain the latest technologies and satisfy guest needs by placing the most updated information at their finger-tips," said Michel Koopman, General Manager, InterContinental Shanghai Expo.
"NEC is proud to work with the InterContinental Shanghai Expo and to see the UNIVERGE IP telephony system contributing to the hotel's leading customer service," said Taichiro Hashizawa, Vice President and Senior General Manager, NEC Corporation.
"NEC has a long history of experience in the hospitality market and provides a complete set of communications capabilities and solutions that enable the InterContinental Hotel to focus on its core business of operating world-class five-star hotels," Hashizawa said.
The InterContinental Shanghai Expo is one of 21 InterContinental Hotels in China. NEC aims to continue developing its business relationships with these hotels by providing products and services to locations that include Beijing and Suzhou.
Going forward, NEC will seek to capitalize on its extensive know-how of both technology and system production to expand its sales of IP telephone systems and unified communication systems for hotels and enterprise markets.
