| International delegates and experts reiterate the need for proactive security to safeguard economic stability at Asia Pacific's premier Homeland Security event |
SINGAPORE, Mar 14, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Asia-Pacific's largest and most comprehensive homeland security and counter terrorism conference and exhibition, Global Security Asia 2011 (GSA 2011), opens tomorrow (15th to 17th March) at the iconic Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore. Themed "Prevention and Protection - Safeguarding People, Property and Infrastructure", GSA 2011, the fourth in the series to be organised in Singapore, will see participation from governmental delegations from the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the region.
Counter terrorism and homeland security is particularly topical in Asia Pacific, with the increase in focus on security and preserving the economic stability and success of the region. "Political stability and national security should not be taken for granted and must be managed proactively. It only takes one innocuous mistake to topple everything that the people and governments of the region have worked hard to build these last few years since the global financial crisis," warned Professor Alan Hatcher, chief executive officer (CEO), and Principal of the International School for Security and Explosives Education (ISSEE) and co-chairman of the GSA 2011 conference.

The three-day event, from 15th to 17th March 2011, is endorsed and supported by the US Department of Commerce, US Department of Homeland Security, UK Trade and Industry, Australian Trade Commission, Singapore and other governmental agencies in the region. GSA 2011 will also play host to international delegations, experts and speakers from various governments, academia, and the homeland security industry, representing more than 13 countries, across 4 continents, making it the premier "must attend" event of the year.
In recent times, the homeland security industry has proven itself to be comparatively well-buffered from the financial crisis, with increase in budgets year on year by various countries in the region including South Asian giants India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, to Australia, Korea, China and Singapore. According to research, current (2011) global government current expenditure on homeland security exceeded US$178 billion. Furthermore the forecasted expenditure for the period 2010-2020 is US$2.7 trillion. Research also suggests that in this period the Asia Pacific region will contribute about 21% to the global homeland security expenditure.

International interest and participation in GSA 2011 has again been very strong with an impressive 160 exhibitors including Motorola, Rhode & Schwarz, Glock, Lockheed Martin, and Thales, adding to a very well subscribed conference as well. Speakers at the conference include leading experts from the USA, the UK, Israel, Singapore, Australia and the Indian sub-continent.
