Asia Coach Week BAAV Busworld Asia 2011 Award Winners are Unveiled

SHANGHAI, Apr 12, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - On March 29th 2011, the passenger bus industry's most closely watched exhibition Busworld Asia 2011 announced the evaluative results and award winners for the ACW awards competition organized through BAAV at the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center in Shanghai, China. The Asia Coach Week BAAV Awards are the leading evaluative and judging event for the bus and coach industry, synonymous with fairness, impartiality and professional expertise.

With an eye toward European market entrance criteria; this contest endeavors to uncover the overlooked strengths in Chinese bus product offerings, transmitting the latest Chinese industry accomplishments to European audiences and industries. This edition of the ACW Awards ceremony established three different categories of prizes: Vehicle Awards, Company Awards, and a BAAV Theme Award. Of special importance is the structuring of the BAA Theme Award this year, oriented to encourage excellence in new energy passenger bus models under the moniker of e-buses and alternative energy.

In order to gain the most detailed information possible, ensuring the accuracy of company and vehicle information, ACW jury member and world-renown journalist Mr. Hans Kuipers visited China and a number of Busworld Asia participating bus manufacturers starting from February 15th. Through this journey, Mr. Kuipers was able to gain a better understanding of the Chinese industry, collecting materials and background data essential for a comprehensive survey of recent market entries. As a result, he was able to share his insights with the ACW evaluative jury and relay the latest developments in the Chinese market to operators from across the globe.

On March 27, some 16 vehicles representing the range of Chinese technical bus and coach offerings lined up at the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center for inspection. For this unique gathering 10 different international and domestic jury experts were divided into 5 core groups; each tasked with assessing the 16 bus and coach vehicle models. After a rigorous and comprehensive testing period that first including onsite inspections, and later two intense days of evaluative activities and scoring, participating contestants were graded according to their safety, comfort, eco-friendliness, ingenuity and beyond.

In order to better serve participating bus builders, this year an additional evaluative round was added to the awards assessment, providing individual reports and consultative opportunities for bus companies to dialogue with the awarding jury regarding structural strengths and weaknesses in their buses. In this way, the awards competition intends to facilitate Chinese bus builders wishing to reach higher European market standards and expand overseas exports.
