MANILA, July 16, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - Fifty GOLD and EXCELLENCE winners across eighteen categories were awarded during the Asian Publishing Awards, Friday July 12. The Gala Dinner closed the 7th Asian Publishing Convention (APC) held at the Mandarin Oriental, attended by 197 delegates from 12 countries.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Pak Jacob Oetama, Founder-Editor of KOMPAS Gramedia Group (Indonesia).
Launched by Jakob Oetama (now 82 yrs old) and Auyong Peng Kuen/Petrus Kanisius Ojong (who passed away 1980), KOMPAS was inspired by a Christian spirit of mission, ethics, service, inclusiveness and moral direction which sets it apart from other press in Indonesia. The founders wanted KOMPAS to promote a Christian message of humanity transcending a pluralistic society with a vast Muslim population.
Pak Jakob's consistently gentle influence of conscience, humility and responsibility about the power of press continues to guide KOMPAS as the torch passes to its next generation of journalists and editors.
Pak Sularto, deputy publisher of KOMPAS received the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of Pak Jakob Oetama who was prevented by poor health from travelling.
The Asian Publishing Awards, co-sponsored by Magzter, is Asia's premier Awards program recognizing best publishing practices in magazines, books and corporate communications. It attracted 171 entries from 31 companies across 8 countries.
