BANGKOK, Nov 19, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Next week, top solar energy experts, government representatives, developers, contractors and financiers from across the ASEAN region will be gathering in Bangkok for the 2nd annual international conference and exhibition, Solar Energy Southeast Asia.
Keynote speaker, Khun Thidarat Sawai from the Bureau of Solar Energy Department, Department of Alternative Energy Development & Efficiency, Ministry of Energy Thailand has confirmed her participation and will deliver a presentation on Thailand's revised Power Development Plan (2015-2036) and Revised Initiatives for solar PV.
Following the recent announcement of Thailand's Energy Ministry plans to purchase 800 megawatts of electricity from solar farms during 2014-2015, higher than its previous projection of 576 megawatts, tier-one Chinese module manufacturer, Trina Solar, has since supplied 7.8MW of its 31,200 Honey modules for ten rooftop projects in Thailand.
PV installations will be some of the first distributed rooftop installations since the introduction last year of Thai National Energy Policy Commission (NEPC)'s feed-in-tariff for rooftop installations.
The NEPC announced 70MW of residential rooftop capacity to be opened up for applications receiving a feed-in tariff of 6.85 Baht/kWh for 25 years, whilst the much neglected solar community scheme has been transformed - aimed at realizing 800MW of solar farms up to 5MW in size through public private partnerships with government or agricultural cooperatives.
The two-day conference programme has attracted speakers representing major ASEAN regions including Rida Mulyana, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia; Tetchi Cruz-Capellan, Founder, Philippine Solar Power Alliance and Managing Director of Solarus Partners and Christophe Inglin, Managing Director, Phoenix Solar & Vice Chairman, Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore. Six of the speakers have recently spoken to Solar Media, the conference organiser, on the region's ambitious alternative energy plans, market opportunities and their predictions for the future - view the interviews here: www.solarenergyevents.com/resources/speaker-spotlight Solar Energy Southeast Asia is supported by Trina Solar, Omnik New Energy Co., Ltd, ABB, Conergy, juwi, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, GIZ, WADE Thai and CEERD.
