HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM, Jan 21, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Fuelled by rising demand for imported meats in Vietnam, leading international meat exporters are headed for Food&HotelVietnam2015 to meet with local buyers and distributors.
From supermarkets to retail stores, imported meats have flooded the Vietnam market. Vietnam has surpassed China to become the second-largest importer of Australian cattle, and retail stores across the southern metropolis have been replacing domestic beef with Australian meat over the last year.[1]
In June 2014, Vietnam also opened the door to Japanese beef, enabling more than 20 meat exporters from Japan to officially distribute the famed Kobe beef in the country.
Nearly US$3.3 million worth of meat imports from the European Union (EU) have also arrived in Vietnam between January to September 2014, seven times the amount imported in the same period the previous year, according to figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs. In the first nine months of 2014, Vietnam imported more than US$85 million worth of frozen meats from 19 markets, up US$12 million compared to same period in 2013, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.[1]
"Economic growth, a flourishing hospitality and food services industry and changing consumer tastes have certainly given rise to a surge in demand for imported meats in Vietnam. This presents a great opportunity for international meat suppliers at Food&HotelVietnam2015 to further capture this growing market," says Mr. BT Tee, Deputy Chief, Vietnam Representative Office, Singapore Exhibition Services, organiser of Food&HotelVietnam2015.
Seizing the opportunity to capture Vietnam's vibrant meat market
Recognising this, Food&HotelVietnam, the country's leading biennial international food and hospitality trade show that will be held from 21-23 April 2015 at the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Centre (SECC), has attracted big-name meat exporters from around the world wanting to tap this growing market. They include the Union of Producers and Employers of Meat Industry (UPEMI) from Poland, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) and many meat exporters from Australia and Spain have confirmed their presence at this upcoming edition.
Local meat importers Vina Siam Food and New Viet Diary will also add to the show's stable of prominent meat suppliers.
Commenting on their participation at Food&HotelVietnam2015, Ms. Sabrina Yin, ASEAN Director, U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) says, "Vietnam is one of our target markets in the recent years due to its strong development and demand. In recent months, we have seen increasing demand for imported beef in Vietnam, driven in large part by expansion in the family dining restaurant sector. Vietnam is also a participant in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, which could serve as a path to improved access for U.S. beef. We are striving to connect with this potential market and Food&HotelVietnam2015 is a chance for us to do so."
"As Vietnam with its fast growing economy is also one of the key markets for meat consumption, there is a big potential for our exporters joining in Food&HotelVietnam2015. We believe that our participation can build more awareness of the quality of European pork and beef as well as create opportunities to strengthen business relationships with local partners," adds Ms. Agnieszka Rozanska, Managing Director, UPEMI.
First time exhibitors Explotaciones Hermanos Delgado from Spain comments on their inaugural participation in Food&HotelVietnam. Mr. Eric Alcolea, Export Manager says, "This year is the first time we are exhibiting at Food&HotelVietnam. We strongly believe in this event as the valuable and trustful channel for us to reach our customers."
