BANGKOK, Apr 1, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Scan Inter PCL, or SCN (SET:SCN), a provider of integrated natural gas products and services, has entered into an agreement with PRAXAIR, the world's top gas producer and supplier, to secure a large quantity of carbon dioxide in preparation for execution of its natural gas quality improvement business plan, in order to exploit its capacity to offer a wide range of natural gas solutions and cater to customer demands, as PTT is shifting its pipeline supply route from Myanmar to the Gulf of Thailand. The company expects to earn around THB 130-200 million from the gas quality improvement business.
Mr. Thanchart Kitpipit, Managing Director of SCN, revealed that his company has signed an agreement with PRAXAIR (Thailand), a local subsidiary of PRAXAIR, the world's largest producer and supplier of carbon dioxide, to secure 35,000 to 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year for its natural gas quality improvement business on a long-term basis.
The signing with PRAXAIR will enable SCN to expand its gas quality improvement business as a way to further add its strength in terms of product variety, to better respond to customer demands and to make itself prepared for the implementation of the plan of PTT Public Company Limited, its major customer, to shift the pipeline route to the Private Mother Station in Sam Khok District, Pathum Thani Province, from Myanmar to the Gulf of Thailand.
The above change of PTT will open up SCN's opportunity to grow its gas quality improvement business. The Wobbe Index, or WI, value of the gas supplied from the Gulf of Thailand to the Mother Station is at 44 MJ/CBM, well above the figure of 38 MJ/CBM for the gas imported from Myanmar and the Department of Energy Business's benchmark range of 37-42 MJ/CBM for domestic automobile fuel.
"PTT's shift of its pipeline route to the Gulf of Thailand will potentially bring to SCN more revenue from the activities of performing gas quality improvement for PTT, in addition to the revenues already earned from PTT from the Private Mother Station and NGV transport businesses," he said. He added that SCN is on its way to execute more agreements for the supply of gas quality improvement service to PTT, and expects its commercial operation to commence by the fourth quarter of this year.
Miss Vipa Jinda, Managing Director of PRAXAIR (Thailand), noted that PRAXAIR, headquartered in the United States, is a major gas producer and supplier in the global market. Its Thailand CO2 operations, based at the gas separation plant in Rayong Province, have been running for more than 40 years, supplying gases to a great variety of industries.
The gas supply deal follows the introduction of an existing cooperation scheme under which PRAXAIR has been supplying carbon dioxide to Siam Vasco Trading, a subsidiary of SCN. PRAXAIR will supply carbon dioxide to SCN, Thailand's leading provider of natural gas products and services, with a passionate belief in the latter's strong business fundamentals and that the partnership will help both parties to move the Thai energy industry forward.
