PT HM Sampoerna Named FinanceAsia's Best Managed Company and Best in Corporate Governance Awards

JAKARTA, Aug 25, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. (IDX: HMSP), the leading Indonesian tobacco company, featured twice in FinanceAsia's annual Asia's Best Companies Poll. Sampoerna successfully won the award for "Best Managed Company" and "Best in Corporate Governance" by this leading publisher of financial news in the Asia-Pacific region. Finance Director of Sampoerna, Michael Sandritter, received the award in Jakarta on Thursday (08/25/2016).

This is the sixteenth year the poll has been conducted and features the views collected from over 250 portfolio managers, investors and buy-side analysts from Asia in February-March 2016. They nominated the 103-year-old company the awards among over 170 submissions across 10 countries for this annual awards.

"The award reflects the trust that investors have in the company, its good management and its credit profile," said Jonathan Wilshere, FinanceAsia's Country Manager Indonesia.

Mr. Sandritter expressed his appreciation for the award presented by FinanceAsia, an institution with an international reputation for its reporting on the Asian capital and financial markets for the past 20 years.

In the first half of 2016, Sampoerna reported net revenues (excluding excise taxes) of Rp. 21.5 trillion and net profit of Rp. 6.1 trillion, an increase of 7.4% and 22.7%, respectively, over the same period in 2015. The Company, whose three brands (A Mild, Dji Sam Soe and Marlboro) are valued about 11,289 million USD by global research firm Millward Brown, successfully maintained its leadership position in the Indonesian cigarette market with a market share of 34.1% for the six months ending June 2016.

"The Company is committed to continuously investing in Indonesia and delivering returns to our shareholders," said Mr. Sandritter.

Driving Business through Good Corporate Governance

Sampoerna, said Mr. Sandritter, completed a Rights Issue in 2015 to comply with the Indonesia Stock Exchange's regulation on minimum free-float stock requirement. The Company was among the first which fulfilled the requirement.
