Norit and PUB Singapore to Sign MOU

SIWW, Singapore, June 28, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - Recognizing the potential scientific and technological benefits a joint strategic alliance can bring, Norit X-Flow and its local affiliate Norit Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (Norit), and PUB, Singapore's national water agency will embark on a comprehensive co-operation aimed at performing knowledge-intensive R&D programs and test-bedding projects.

Norit and PUB will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that outlines plans for cooperation on several water technologies. The MOU explores possibilities for Norit Asia Pacific to develop a Norit Airlift(TM) Membrane BioReactor (MBR) Megablock validation plant at one of PUB's water reclamation plants. The validation plant will be the first of its kind in Asia, and only the second such system in the world.

Norit X-Flow, based in Enschede, the Netherlands, has developed a new compact membrane bioreactor (MBR) system based on its successful Airlift(TM) ultrafiltration (UF) technology. The new Megablock establishes a new order of magnitude in municipal wastewater treatment and reuse by delivering 50-100 percent more m3 output per m2 than any other MBR system in the world. It is a compact, modular and fully automated MBR system that combines biological treatment with Norit X-Flow UF membranes and minimizes the required footprint. In addition, the membranes are placed in a dry and clean environment making them quickly accessible without comprising the health and safety of plant workers.

Menno Holterman, Chief Growth Officer of the Norit Group, and Duane Schlicht, Managing Director of Norit Asia Pacific, will sign the MOU on behalf of Norit Asia Pacific. Mr Chan Yoon Kum, Assistant Chief Executive (ACE), and Mr Wah Yuen Long, Director of Water Reclamation Plant, PUB will attend the official ceremony and sign the MOU on behalf of the PUB.

"Norit is willing to share it's wealth of knowledge and experience with PUB," said Menno Holterman. "We are very confident that this collaboration will turn into a great success."

"Norit is pleased that we have the opportunity to test our system at PUB's facility and this further gives substance to our original decision to establish strong HQ and technical operations in Singapore," said Duane Schlicht, Managing Director of Norit Asia Pacific.

"We feel that the PUB has both the technical expertise and a futuristic vision that best demonstrate their desire to both test and utilize next generation technology in their facilities and Norit is committed to providing not only innovation but support in a close cooperative environment with the Public Utilities Board," Schlicht said.

"This MOU will signify a new level of alliance and partnership between Norit and PUB. Both organisations will work on common areas of interest to create synergy and value in terms of knowledge development and capability building for both parties. We look forward to continuing our strong working relationship with Norit," said Mr Wah, PUB's Director of Water Reclamation Plants

Press and visitors are welcomed to join the signing ceremony at the Norit booth (No.D24) of the Singapore International Water week at 10:45 am, on the first of July.
