High Levels of Hiring within Korea's Commercial Industries - Robert Walters

SEOUL, S.KOREA, Mar 27, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Robert Walters, the international recruitment consultancy, publishes its Asia Job Index for Q4 2011. The Robert Walters Asia Job Index tracks advertisement volumes for professional positions across the leading job boards and national newspapers in Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Malaysia.

KOREA: Job advertisements for professional positions placed in print and online media, 2011

Job advertisements in Korea remained stable from Q3 to Q4 increasing by 1% despite a 21% decrease in job advertisements from October to December. Job advertisements in retail and customer servicing rose 7% and 11% respectively as increasing numbers of companies sought to capitalise on sustained consumer confidence with new products and services. With the addition of anticipated international investment stemming from recently ratified trade agreements in the last year, recruitment activity in 2012 will potentially be more buoyant than in other global markets.

Other key findings:

- Total job advertisements across the region fell by 3% from Q3 to Q4 2011.
- +7% job advertisements in retail positions grew in conjunction with strong consumer demand.
- December in particular saw a decline in job advertisements in the run up to the festive period, with the number of jobs advertised decreasing by 10% from October to December.
- Many companies postponed hiring at the end of Q4 due to the early Lunar New Year.
- Job advertisements in retail and customer servicing rose 7% and 11% respectively as more companies introduced new products and services.
- Recruitment levels in IT services increased by 13% as strong sales of software and hardware services were driven by international companies looking to expand in Korea.
