Renningen, Germany, Apr 7, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - With today's acquisition of SUTRAK, a leading global provider of bus air-conditioning systems, J. Eberspacher GmbH & Co KG has positioned itself in the bus and coach market as a full-range provider for heating and cooling systems. The Esslingen-based automotive supplier has acquired the SUTRAK bus air-conditioning systems business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and signed an agreement to acquire related distribution operations in Mexico and India from Carrier Corp. (USA), a business unit of United Technologies Corp.
"The fusion of SUTRAK and Eberspacher sees two renowned providers in the area of heating and cooling coming together to cover the entire range of thermal management in the bus market", explained Dr. Leonhard Vilser, Eberspacher CEO for vehicle heating systems. Dr. Vilser added that he expects an extensive range of synergy as a result of the union. "In the bus market, in particular, our customers are increasingly demanding complete vehicle temperature-control solutions. We have now addressed these market demands with the acquisition of SUTRAK."
Eberspacher is the only manufacturer that covers the entire bus spectrum with its heater systems, from the minibus (5 kW heater) to the 20-seater (12 kW) and on to the large touring bus (35 kW). As a result of the acquisition, Eberspacher is now able to provide its customers with complete rooftop air-conditioning systems for all kinds of buses, as well as components such as evaporators, condensers or compressors.
The acquired business had sales of approximately $90 million and more than 200 employees in 2009 engaged in supplying several well-known bus manufacturers, fleet operators and aftermarket partners.
The head office of the new subsidiary, Eberspacher Sutrak GmbH & Co. KG, located in Renningen, Germany, employs 135 people in sales, research and development, production and administration. Other important locations in the acquisition package are a production plant in Madrid and a distribution company in Mexico City, along with numerous sales and service offices throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India.
Eberspacher ranks amongst the leading system developers and suppliers of exhaust technology and vehicle heating worldwide and is also involved in vehicle electronics and automotive bus systems. Its customers include almost all European and North American manufacturers for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
