Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo Obtained EICC Conflict-Free Smelter (CFS) Certification for Gold
Responding to risk of conflict metals for manufacturers of electronic component including semiconductor and electrical appliance

TOKYO, July 31, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo K.K. (A company of Tanaka precious Metals) has announced that it obtained EICC Conflict Free Smelters (CFS)*1 program certification for certifying that conflict metals are not used in the gold bullion and gold material procured, refined and shipped by the Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo plant (Kanagawa prefecture).

The EICC (Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition)*2 is made up of electronics related manufacturers and major suppliers, and is currently the world's only electronic industry group performing traceability audit on conflict metals. Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo implemented the EICC's assessment in its Kanagawa prefecture plant, conducting numerous sample inspections on gold distributed during a specific period, and obtained certification by meeting all of the criteria established by the EICC.

By obtaining EICC Conflict-Free Smelter (CFS) Certification, Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo will fulfill its responsibilities as a material manufacturer by providing assurance and reliability to its clientele of electronic component manufacturers in the electronics industries including semiconductor and home appliance through the procurement, refining and shipment of gold bullion and gold materials free of risk from conflict metals.

Growing concerns on enhancement of traceability of conflict metals

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of July 2010 requires companies listed on US stock exchanges to report the use of conflict metals covering the gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten from the Democratic Republic of Congo and surrounding countries where there are widespread human rights violations to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). Companies listed in the United States are required to enhance traceability in the supply chain going back to raw materials to determine whether or not conflict metals are used.
