Washington, D.C., Oct 24, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has selected Thomson Reuters to be part of an effort to improve the security of land and property rights around the world.
USAID's Strengthening Tenure and Resource Rights (STARR) contract supports objectives related to enhanced food security, climate change adaptation, conflict prevention, natural resource management, and economic growth. This reflects a growing recognition that efficient and equitable land administration is a cornerstone for economic development.
As a STARR consortium member, Thomson Reuters has the opportunity to compete for projects to be implemented under this USAID indefinite quantity contract (IQC). The company has deployed property administration services in more than 45 countries, enabling governments to support sustainable growth, optimize revenue generation, and improve services to the public.
Peter Rabley, vice president for global business development in the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters and an IQC consortium program manager, said: "We have a long, successful track record implementing technology in support of the USAID's land tenure, property rights, and land management projects, as well as a proven ability to work in nearly any country, in nearly any environment."
The company has previously supported USAID projects in more than 20 countries across Asia, South America, The Caribbean, Africa and Europe.
"Our unique expertise in technology, software, consulting, project management, and implementation make Thomson Reuters a practical contributor to further advance the USAID's efforts in supporting recipient nations," Rabley said.
Thomson Reuters will take a leadership role by working with other consortium team members to propose solutions for USAID projects supporting foreign governments and the people and communities most in need of secured land and property rights. This is critical to meet key USAID strategic objectives including women's economic empowerment, democracy and governance, conflict mitigation, food security, and natural resource management.
