- China Telecom wins six IR Magazine Awards to become the number one company in investor relations in the Greater China region - China Telecom makes huge gains in award count from zero in 2011 to six in 2012 - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company falls one spot to rank at number two, collecting five awards |
HONG KONG, Dec 12, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - A year ago at the IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2011, China Telecom was a small nominee in just one award category. One year later in December 2012, China Telecom not only multiplied its nomination count to six, but also went on to win all six awards to become the most honored company at the IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2012.
In addition to winning the biggest prize of the grand prix for best overall investor relations for large-cap companies (an award category for which it was not even nominated last year), China Telecom swept all the top IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2012 for a mainland Chinese company, including best investor relations officer for Jacky Yung, best investor relations by a CEO or president for Wang Xiao Chu, and best investor relations by a CFO for Wu Andi.
With these impressive wins, China Telecom now reigns at number one in the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30, an annual ranking of the best companies in investor relations across mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. From last year's number eight position, China Telecom has made leaps and bounds to take the number one spot in 2012, knocking the previously top-ranked Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) down a spot. Now at number two, TSMC is the second-most honored company at this year's IR Magazine Awards - Greater China, with five wins including best investor relations by a Taiwanese company and best investor relations by a CFO - Taiwan for Lora Ho.
Another mainland Chinese company that has made tremendous gains in 2012 is PC maker Lenovo. Nominated for a record nine IR Magazine Awards, it went on to win two, including the grand prix for overall investor relations for mid or small-cap companies. Most stunningly, in the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30 ranking, Lenovo has jumped 24 places from number 30 in 2011 to number six in 2012.
Two Hong Kong-based companies also had very impressive wins at the IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2012: Pacific Basin Shipping with four awards and China Resources Enterprise with three. The awards boosted both companies' rankings in the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30, with Pacific Basin Shipping going from unranked last year to number seven this year, and China Resources Enterprise jumping 20 spots to number five.
The IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2012 are decided solely by an independent survey of investors and analysts, all of whom are located in the region. Just like in IR Magazine's other awards in Europe and the Americas, investors and analysts are asked to vote for their favorite company in each award category. This year, 436 respondents took part in the survey. The company with the most votes in each respective category wins the award. Votes for all award categories are aggregated to rank the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30.
