TOKYO, Jan 30, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - According to Hays Specialist Recruitment Japan KK ("Hays"), demand for language skills remains strong across employers in Japan - particularly for Japanese nationals with English and native English speakers with Japanese. At the same time on the candidate side, Hays is seeing increased applications from overseas - especially Europe - as experienced mid-career professionals explore opportunities outside of often struggling home markets.
According to the latest Hays Quarterly Report, the right language skills set candidates apart from the competition. With Japan currently experiencing a wide range of skills shortages in its job market, hiring is often candidate-driven and those who have nurtured the right skills stand to benefit.
"We strongly encourage candidates from both Japan and overseas to invest in developing their language skills. Particularly given Japan's push for outbound economic growth, with the proper preparation, there is substantial opportunity to advance rapidly," says Jonathan Sampson, Regional Director of Hays in Japan. "At the same time, different sectors have different needs. It pays to know what the trends are in your sector."
According to the Report, in certain industries foreign candidates with strong experience but limited Japanese are considered by employers. Information Technology consulting companies are increasingly working with Japanese employers expanding overseas, and require English even more than Japanese. At the same time, the banking sector holds a preference for foreign candidates with fluent Japanese.
