JAKARTA, INDONESIA, Oct 1, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), entering its 28th year, is set to return better than ever this year. Held on October 16 - 20 in the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), TEI's theme this year is 'Remarkable Indonesia'. "The theme was chosen to illustrate the diversity of Indonesian products, which are value-added, high quality, and ready to be exported," said Minister of Trade Gita Wirjawan during a press conference today with the Chairman of the TEI, Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of APINDO, other related Ministries and the Director of JIExpo at the Ministry of Trade.
Currently, 7,112 international buyers from 92 countries are registered for TEI 2013. This is expected to grow to 10,000 people by the opening of the exhibition. 60,000 m2 of space is available this year, which is already 89% occupied by exhibitors.
The Minister stated that the target of this year's expo was transactions of USD 2 billion for goods and services. "We are quite optimistic because we are targeting not only transactions during the exhibition, but also trade contracts for the long term," he said.
The Trade Minister then explained that international buyers who have registered have shown interest in value-added finished goods, such as textiles and textile products, furniture, processed food and beverages, as well as paper and rubber products. "This marks the start of a shift from commodity exports to the export value-added goods. We hope this can increase the value of Indonesian non-oil exports," he said.
Chief Executive of TEI 28 Gusmardi Bustami added that this year's expo will also offer a number of skilled labor production services that meet international standards." The competitiveness of Indonesian production services is quite high, given the many Indonesian workers have high skill sets but with prices of competitive services," he explained. Production services that will be displayed include skilled labor services, mining services, as well as banking and insurance services.
In addition to the expo, the Ministry of Commerce, in cooperation with other ministries such as the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), will carry out activities such as the Trade and Investment Forum, one-on-one business meetings, business clinics and company visits.
According to Gusmardi, peripheral activities are no less important than the expo itself. "Through these activities, Indonesian business people can know conditions of the target export markets, opportunities and challenges in entering a particular market, meet directly with potential trading partners, with many other benefits," he added.
For the expo, TEI is able to attract qualified buyers from around the globe. But this is not separate from the role of the Indonesian Representative Office abroad, including the Commercial Attache and Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), which has marketed to overseas buyers with road-shows and promotions - often with the TEI at various international events in countries of accreditation.
This year will also feature the TEI Export Development Pavilion, exhibiting various products such as strategic industrial products (aircraft, ships, defense equipment, radar telecommunications); biotechnology, downstream agricultural products, plantation and mining; automotive products; creative products and information technology (IT); skilled labor services (nurses, operators), professional and consulting services as well as products of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and others.
TEI 2013 is also organizing a series of exhibitions including Jakarta Fashion Week 2014, which will be held on October 17 - 25, preceded by Buyers Room activities on October 17 - 19 at Senayan City, Jakarta, the Yogyakarta Trade Expo 2013 on October 18 - 22 in Yogyakarta, and the Bali World Seafood Show, to be held on October 22 - 23 at the Bali International Convention Centre, Nusa Dua Bali.
