POWER-GEN Asia & Renewable Energy World Asia plays host to record attendance in Bangkok
Local and International Power and renewable energy professionals to gather for the industry's premier annual conference & exhibition

BANGKOK, Oct 16, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - POWER-GEN Asia, alongside Renewable Energy World Asia, the region's premier conference and exhibition for the power generation and alternative energy industries, took place at the IMPACT Exhibition & Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand on 2-4 October 2013 for 3 days of discussion and debate on the future of Asia's power industry.

Attracting a record attendance of over 7,800 attendees from over 70 countries, the 21st annual POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia hosted 7 conference tracks including the inaugural Industrial Water Day, all under the theme of "Advancing Asia's Energy Future".

The events saw a packed exhibit floor with 230 exhibitors from South East Asia and around the world showcasing their latest technologies, products and solutions that will drive the industry forward.

Returning to Bangkok for the 6th time, POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia hosted the Joint Opening Keynote Session on 2 October, with standing room only, which included presentations from Dr. Twarath Sutabutr, Deputy Director-General, Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy; Dr. Piyasvasti Amranand, Chairman, Energy for Environment Foundation; Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate, Governor, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand; and Mr. Markus Lorenzini, Head of Energy Sector, ASEAN-Pacific Cluster, Siemens, Indonesia.

After the Opening Keynote Session, the Exhibition Floor was officially opened with the Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting, performed by all Keynote Speakers, who were joined by Chiruit Isarangkun, Vice President Administration & Strategic Support, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.

Of particular interest during the event was the POWER-GEN Asia Plenary Panel Discussion which took place on 3 October under the topic of "Asian Power - 2020 Vision". The panel discussion was moderated by Mark Hutchinson, Managing Director, IHS Consulting with the panel consisting of industry experts including, Yerim Park, International Energy Agency; Robert McGregor, HSBC; Colin Tam, Crystal Vision Energy Ltd; Michael Thomas, The Lantau Group (HK) Limited; and Wouter van Wersch, Alstom International.

POWER-GEN Asia continues to push the boundaries in conference content and once again offered a leading line up of over 150 conference speakers, from around the world, discussing important topics and issues that are key to the power generation and transmission & distribution industries across the ASEAN region. Overall, the industry's premier conference programme attracted almost 900 delegates with the multiple tracks including topics focusing on strategic and technical power issues and challenges, as well as the growth of the renewable and alternative energy sectors, and the new addition of Industrial Water.
