This marks the 4th year of the Youth Entrepreneurship Competition. The competition aims to provide a platform for local young people aged 18 to 38 to start their own business, and boost their prospects of success through professional consultants across different sectors offering advice on how to start and run the business and establish a strong business network.
Starting from today to 31 May 2014 (Saturday), individuals and teams wishing to participate shall submit the application form and business plan, which will be reviewed by the judging panel according to the key criteria including creativity, feasibility, sustainability of the business plan and the ability of applicants. The Youth Council will announce the shortlisted entries by the end of June 2014 and arrange for them to meet the consultants in July to August to modify the plan content. The final results will be announced in late September. Renowned expert speakers have been invited on the day of the award presentation ceremony to share their success stories with the participants to enhance their understanding about entrepreneurship. The two winners of the Best Business Plan Awards will receive new business funding of HK$150,000 each and an exchange trip to Taiwan. Professional consultants will also follow up on the implementation of the winning plans. In addition, an entrepreneurship exchange tour in China has been added this year for the teams shortlisted in the first round selection, with the aim to enhance their understanding of entrepreneurship and further refine their business plans through site visits.
Ms Clara Chan, Chairman of the Youth Council, said, "To help young people turn their dream of starting a business into reality is one of the founding missions of the Youth Council. Over the years, our entrepreneurship competition has attracted more than 500 young people. Through the competition, we have witnessed these aspiring entrepreneurs broaden their understanding of commercial operations and gain greater opportunities to practice what they have learned, which increases their chances of success. I hope that all the young people who want to start their own business and are eligible to join the competition, can make the most of this valuable learning opportunity and realise their dreams."
Mr Nelson Yip, Consultant of the Youth Entrepreneurship Competition 2014, said, "As an entrepreneur, I often remind myself to help people reach their full potentials and give something back to the community. I hope to use my experience to help more young people who want to start their business to realise their potential and help them to lay a solid foundation for their future success."
Mr Sam Lee, Ambassador of Youth Entrepreneurship Competition 2014, also stated, "Every entrepreneur faces unexpected difficulties. The most important thing is to learn how to manage these challenges during the process and accumulate experience. I believe the success of new businesses is not determined simply on a business scale but also on the entrepreneur's own faith and whether he or she is humble about learning from others as well as from his or her own experience."
