"MOVE Forward" Advances the Industry Forward
In 2008, the organizers adopted the English word "W.I.N.G." to represent the developmental trend of ICT industry. At this year's COMPUTEX TAIPEI they have come up with "M.O.V.E.", a new concept that will further progress in the ICT industry. Besides the literal meaning of "take action" and "cause change", each of the four letters have special contexts: M stands for Mobility, O stands for Open, V stands for Vitality, E stands for Eco-friendly. All these concepts are essential to Taiwan's development toward the 21st century, and COMPUTEX TAIPEI is fully engaged in these trends.
First, mobility, the cross over between broadband wireless technology and computer systems has created unlimited possibilities in the ICT industry. As 2009 witnesses the launch of the first WiMAX commercial operations, COMPUTEX TAIPEI has integrated WiMAX Taipei 2009 into its exhibition, with nearly 700 exhibition booths in the WiMAX & Communication Products area, including major WiMAX operators and manufacturers from domestic and abroad, like Intel, R&S, Acer, Gemtek, Accton, Microelectronics, Tatung InfoComm, Global Mobile, Vee Telecom, VMAX etc. Their participation makes Taiwan an important indicator for the global development of the WiMAX industry that provides solutions like network systems, chipsets and components, application services, certification etc. in the product supply chains
Second, open, for the first time, we have invited manufacturers from Mainland China to exhibit their products at the newly created China Exhibition Area to share this productive business platform and to display once again the openness of COMPUTEX TAIPEI. Major ICT companies from Mainland China, like Tsinghua Tongfang and Huawei are joining this event with an even larger number of Chinese buyers, including Lenovo, Founder Technology, Huaqi and Newland Group, to just name a few. The goal is to promote cooperation between the cross strait ICT industry by utilizing the procurement platform of COMPUTEX TAIPEI to create a win-win situation for both economies.
Third, vitality, COMPUTEX TAIPEI is an important platform for innovation in the global ICT industry. Events like the Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI Award, COMPUTREND New Product Launch, Linux Forum 2009, seminar on "How to Cooperate with Taiwan ICT Industry to Create Business Opportunities in the Emerging Markets" to promote the excellent products and services provided by Taiwan. Microsoft has also expanded its exhibition this year and is holding its Microsoft Forum 2009 at COMPUTEX. Corporate vice president of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Division at Microsoft Corp., Steve Guggenheimer will attend this forum to give a keynote speech.
Finally, eco-friendly, as all industrialized economies are eagerly engaged in environmental protection, COMPUTEX TAIPEI is not a mere bystander at this global trend to work towards a green future. Therefore, at this year's "Best Choice of COMPUTEX TAIPEI Award", the organizers have specially added an award for "2009 Best Choice of Green ICT". In addition, the number of companies that are closely engaged in clean energy related industries is steadily growing, especially in the LED and solar energy sector. For example, Forward Electronics, Chipset Communication, Chi Lin Technology etc. are involved in the LED business, providing energy-efficient solutions to customers. Regarding solar energy, Powercom, OPTI International, Cover Ground Electronics etc. are all important suppliers in the clean energy sector.
COMPUTREND Area Displays the Diversity of the ICT Industry
At the COMPUTREND Area of COMPUTEX TAIPEI one can see major developing trends in the ICT industry. For 2009, there are a total of 15 pavilions, including 7 newly created ones, like Auto-ID, Chic Technique, Digital Signage, Linux Expo, Healthcare Expo, Solid State Drive Alliance and the Intelligent Medical Gallery, which are all trend defining sectors of the global ICT industry. As one of the eight government endorsed industry spotlights, the newly created Intelligent Medical Gallery is gathering some of the major manufacturers in the medical electronics industry, like Advantec (mobile medical computer), CipherLab (RFID), Stoneax (Access Control And Management System), TSC Auto ID (RFID printer) etc. Together they provide total solutions for medical electronics for a new developing market with high export potential. The Digital Signage Pavilion is another newly created trend products pavilion with HGiga exhibiting the latest products that integrate view counting features, with AOpen and COLLEVO exhibiting this years hottest product, the All-In-One enhanced with CULV features. Other applications in the latest market trends include touch technology, RFID and all kinds of sophisticated electronic applications, like wireless computer mice that look like fashionable lipsticks and trendy computer bags etc., can all be seen at the show. These products fully demonstrate the diversity of COMPUTEX TAIPEI and will surely impress overseas buyers from all over the world.
No matter how harsh the conditions, Taiwanese manufacturers keep on moving forward after reorganizing themselves. In addition to the continuing R&D of superior products, the search for business opportunities shouldn't be overlooked. Especially since Taiwan is an export driven economy with the primary target market overseas. The importance of COMPUTEX TAIPEI as a global ICT procurement platform can't be emphasized enough, particularly as other major ICT exhibitions, like CeBIT and CES have declined in their exhibition scale. All eyes are now concentrating on Taiwan, hoping that COMPUTEX TAIPEI will bring good news and clear the sky for the global ICT industry.
