HONG KONG, Apr 30, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair, the largest fair of its kind in the world, and the Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair closed today after four-day shows at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and AsiaWorld-Expo respectively.

Hong Kong Gift Fair

The two fairs welcomed more than 65,000 buyers from 151 countries and regions, with overseas buyers up by six per cent. Buyers from Asia, including the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, India and Indonesia, recorded double-digit percentage growth. Traditional markets such as Japan, the United Kingdom, Korea and New Zealand also recorded significant growth.

More than 4,500 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions took part in the two fairs, welcoming 164 buying missions counting some 12,400 buyers from 74 countries and regions. Buyers represented major global importers, distributors and retailers, including the Museum of Contemporary Art from the United States, Lexibook from France, H&M and JD.com from the mainland, Signes Grimalt from Spain, and Page One, agnes b and Godiva from Hong Kong.

The gift fair's Small-Order Zone featured some 400 showcases offering more than 4,000 products available in small quantities. The zone attracted over 23,000 buyer visits during the four-day period, generating some 40,000 business enquiries.

Spotlight on Indonesia

During the gift fair, the HKTDC signed cooperation agreements with ASEAN member Indonesia, to strengthen bilateral trade promotion. The agreements cover areas ranging from gifts and premiums, to houseware, food, textiles and fashion, focusing on the promotion of Indonesian products through HKTDC fairs and online.

"The Indonesian retailing sector has been growing rapidly in recent years, offering ample business opportunities for Hong Kong's companies," said HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau. "The cooperation agreements that the HKTDC has signed with Indonesia's Directorate General of National Export Development, Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs are set to expand bilateral trade promotion and exchange. At the same time, Indonesian enterprises will be able to use our trading platform to promote their products to the world."

On-site Orders

Subash M Nair, Director (Sales) for the United Arab Emirates' Global Tech General Trading LLC, said his company had placed orders on-site, including an order for 50,000 mirrors for about US$100,000. Mr Nair was also interested in headphones, toys and wine glasses offered by Hong Kong and Chinese producers at the fair. Global Tech is engaged in e-commerce and gift and promotional product distribution for airlines, hotels and other clients.

European Buyers Active

Hong Kong exhibitor MGM Industries & Co launched its Thai boxing and sportswear series at the gift fair. With Western economies recovering, the company's Managing Director, Peter Chiu, said he had been approached by a number of European buyers, including Spain, the United Kingdom and Finland.

Vicky Chang, Director of Taiwanese exhibitor Miccudo Multimedia Co, Ltd, said the company's creative index stickers and mini-sized pot plants had drawn strong interest from European buyers, including those from France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Ms Chang said she expected good business results from the fair.

Eco-Friendly Products in Demand

Vania Mak, Ocean Park Hong Kong's Merchandising Manager, said she was looking for eco-friendly products at the gift fair, including organic T-shirts, biodegradable bamboo offerings and gifts that promote environmental conservation and incorporate such messages. Ms Mak said Ocean Park collaborates with local designers.

Hong Kong's i-Deal Print Ltd, an exhibitor at the printing fair's new Green Printing & Packaging Solutions Zone, specialises in food and beverage packaging. Karen Choy, i-Deal Print's Key Account Manager, said the company's food-grade paper and biodegradable paper products were well-received by fair buyers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
