Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility Explores Ways to Build Resilient Communities

MANILA, Aug 29, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR), the largest annual conference on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Asia-Pacific, is set on September 2-3, 2014 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Makati City, Philippines. This year's theme, "Building Resilient Communities: How Business, Government and Social Enterprises Can Work Together", underscores the importance of mitigating risks, rebuilding from devastation, forming partnerships, and ensuring good governance to sustain economic gains among communities across the region.

This year's AFCSR is co-convened by the Asian Institute of Management - Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (AIM-RVR CSR Center) and the Asia Inc. Forum (AIF). The conference is expected to gather 500 participants from 30 countries across the globe.

"When we talk about leading in Asia, we need to be mindful that some of the communities that we serve are among the most vulnerable in the world," notes Dato Timothy Ong, Chairman of AFCSR and Asia Inc. Forum. "Events such as the AFCSR allow current and emerging leaders to find ways on how we can better collaborate to ensure that the progress we have achieved will not be erased by devastating events."

This year's AFCSR is composed of 17 sessions. The conference features plenary sessions addressed by keynote speakers; breakout sessions focusing on specific dynamics, learnings, and best practices; an expo showcasing CSR programs of companies, and optional field visits to innovative CSR program sites in and around the city.

Among the key discussion topics are: the requirements of building resilient communities; innovative approaches to building resilient communities; lessons learned from rebuilding from devastation; partnerships for building resilient communities; embedding and sustaining corporate citizenship; and national resilience and good governance.

Among the many speakers gracing the event are: H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, former President of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Laureate; William D. Eggers, author of "The Solution Revolution: How Business, Government and Social Enterprises are Teaming Up to Solve Society's Biggest Problems"; Randy Halasan, Emergent Leadership Awardee, The 2014 Ramon Magsaysay Awards and Hon.
