With a population of about 220 million people[1], the Mekong region is showing the promise of fast economic growth and increasing consumer spending in the future. The Toyota Mekong Club Championship, starting this year, links the countries of the Mekong together in their love of football. The top league team or cup winning club team from each of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam will be in competition to see who is number one in the region.

Kimihisa Imada, Deputy President of JCBI commented, "JCBI is privileged to be an Associate Partner of such an exciting event. Our aim of this sponsorship is to strengthen the relationship between Japan and the Mekong region through football, a commonly popular sport in those countries. At the same time, JCBI is committed to promoting the card payment environment by offering a convenient and secure payment solution in the Mekong region."

JCBI has been focusing on establishing merchant network mainly for foreign travelers to the region. With the increasing number of locally issued JCB cardmembers in Thailand, Vietnam and Laos, JCBI expects the usage of JCB cards by local cardmembers to increase rapidly in the region.
