Dow Water & Process Solutions Launches New Water Scarcity Solution Technologies at Singapore International Water Week

SIWW, Singapore, June 22, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), a leading global supplier of advanced technologies for purification and separation processes that make water safer, cleaner and more available, today announced its launch of two new DOW(TM) FILMTEC(TM) elements for brackish water treatment at Singapore's International Water Week (SIWW). These elements have earned the distinction of being two of the top innovations for 2009, and will be featured in the SIWW Innovation Corner.

Dow's new brackish water reverse osmosis (RO) elements, DOW(TM) FILMTEC(TM) BW30HR-440i and BW30XFR-400/34i, allow demineralization and other water treatment systems to operate more consistently and with less cleaning and maintenance, making essential industrial and potable water treatment processes more affordable for power plants, manufacturing operations and municipalities around the world.

The BW30HR-440i and the BW30XFR-400/34i are both essential developments for power generation and electronics manufacturing, enabling key industries in rapidly-developing Asian economies. Both technologies reduce system operating and maintenance costs through improved water quality and extended membrane life, enabling lower cost purified water.

"As part of our corporate commitment to help solve the global water crisis, Dow Water & Process Solutions is continuing to invest in cutting-edge research and development creating solutions for industry, business and life in established and emerging industrialized areas," said Ian Barbour, general manager of Dow Water & Process Solutions. "With DOW FILMTEC(TM) BW30HR-440i and BW30XFR-400/34i, we have improved the quality of pure water produced, increased the useful life of our filtration technologies while decreasing the volume of chemicals, resources and maintenance required to produce clean water."

The DOW(TM) Ultrafiltration SFP2880 (UF) redesigned module will also be on exhibit at SIWW in DW&PS' exhibit booth #G02. This new element design has 50 percent more membrane active area in a smaller, more compact membrane design, shrinking the overall footprint of the installation by as much as one-half.

Results of a recent Qingdao, China, nuclear power plant pilot project show the ability of the SFP2880 to process seawater of high and varying turbidities for nuclear power generation-enabling a cost-effective, climate-friendly and reliable source of power for the region.

Dow Water & Process Solutions' enabling-component technologies are hard at work in a variety of applications serving some of the most water-challenged areas of the world including China, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Australia.
