HONG KONG, Sept 21, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - VeriTrans Inc. ("Baidu"), have co-announced today the official launch of "Free SIM" service targeting Chinese tourists visiting Japan. At the initial stage, "Free SIM" service is to be available to selected tourists free of charge, while later the service will be available to all tourists at no cost.

According to the national ranking of foreign tourists visiting Japan released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in September 2014, the total number of Chinese tourists visiting Japan has exceeded that of South Korean tourist arrivals and ranked No.1 in August 2014. During that month, Chinese visitors to Japan have grown 56.5% compared to last month, reaching 253,900. It is expected that the number will continue to grow rapidly in the future.
Meanwhile, according to the poll results from foreign tourists visiting Japan conducted by JNTO in 2013, asking "Things that disturb you the most during travel," the answer most people selected was "not enough free wireless LAN." Japan's free public wireless LAN network is at an early stage compared to other countries, therefore offering foreign tourists a simple and convenient internet connection service is a pressing problem.
In order to solve this problem, VeriTrans and Baidu have officially launched "Free SIM" service for Chinese tourists visiting Japan.
VeriTrans will provide a reservation service for SIM cards on Buy-J.com, a cross-border online shopping mall targeting Chinese tourists that it operates. At the initial stage, the service will be available for selected visitors of an information website for tourists (*) free of charge. The SIM card will then be mailed to the applicant before visiting Japan, and the SIM card can be used immediately upon arrival in Japan. VeriTrans will further strengthen cooperation with Japanese government, airlines and travel agencies and receive advertising fees from these partners. Eventually, VeriTrans plans to provide "Free SIM" service to all users free of charge. In the future, VeriTrans will actively establish promotion channels of SIM cards and continue to work with Baidu to develop and provide better and more convenient services to Chinese tourists visiting Japan.
