This year's event places additional focus on wearable technology, 3D printing and gadgets that promote good health, according to Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC. "There is an increasing demand for new creative solutions in these sectors of the electronics market," Mr Chau said. "Reflecting this trend, we have introduced two new product zones, 3D Printing and Wearable Electronics, and there is a dedicated showcase area to present the latest wearable gadgets."

Electronics Fair

The Hong Kong Electronics Fair will welcome a Bulgarian exhibitor for the first time. The Hall of Fame continues to be a popular feature of the fair, spotlighting over 510 leading brands and stylish products including HP, Motorola, Oregon Scientific and VTech, as well as first-time participation by Ford and GP Batteries.

New Dimensions

Among the innovative products at the fair, a number of wearable devices promote personal well-being by monitoring the wearer's activity, calorie burning and heart rate levels. Smart healthcare products are also in focus with new devices that monitor body weight and blood pressure and ease pain. There are other overarching product categories at the fair including smart home appliances, in-vehicle gadgets, audio visual products, electronic gaming and personal electronics.

electronicAsia

electronicAsia creates an unrivalled platform for suppliers of electronic components and production technologies such as PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards), assemblies, display technologies and solar photovoltaic technologies. A new Printed Circuit Board zone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, the World of Display Technology zone will feature some of the latest visualisation technologies such as an enhanced 3D video system which enables broadcasters to transmit a single video service to 2D and 3D audiences. The zone includes leading corporations such as SISVEL, Truly Semiconductors and You-Eal Corporation. Other highlights of electronicAsia include: Key Components for Smart Devices; World of Solar; and, Hong Kong Metal Parts & Components Pavilion. During the fair, a number of new and innovative products will be introduced by different exhibitors.

Elsewhere, Buyer Forums focus on the theme of "Opportunities in Emerging Markets" with the spotlight on Argentina and Poland (13 Oct) followed by the Middle East and Brazil (15 Oct). On the topic of product development, the Hong Kong Electronic Industry Summit takes the theme of "Latest Trend of Robotics Industry". Keynote speakers at the Summit include Prof. Xi Ning of the City University of Hong Kong and Dr David Hanson, CEO of United States-based Hanson Robotics which is renowned for its development of life-like humanoid robots.

Making Contact

Several networking events are scheduled during the fair period, including the Joint Networking Reception and HKEIA (Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association) Award Presentation 2014 being held this evening. A product demonstration of the award-winning innovations will take place in Hall 1D from 11am to 12.30 pm tomorrow (14 Oct).

Small Orders, Big Prospects

In response to the growing demand of smaller and frequent orders, Small-Order Zone is back with 400 showcases on display, offering some 4,000 products in minimum orders ranging from five to 1,000 pieces. The online Small-Order Zone has been transformed from an enquiry based to a transactional platform in April 2014, facilitating SMEs to expand their businesses riding on the global e-commerce trends.

Electronic Trade

Hong Kong is among the major trading hubs in the Asia Pacific for electronic products and components. In 2013, the value of Hong Kong's exports of electronics products reached US$270 billion, representing a 6.7 per cent increase compared to 2012.
