Smart Glasses, Fashion Brands in Focus at Fair |
HONG KONG, Nov 5, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The 22nd HKTDC Hong Kong Optical Fair opened today, welcoming a record number of more than 710 exhibitors. The show, which runs until 7 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association. The HKTDC has organised 72 buying missions consisting of more than 4,100 trade buyers from 47 countries and regions to visit the fair.

Featuring the latest trends and new technology in the optical industry, the fair sees the participation of Rochester Optical, a frame and optics manufacturer, exhibiting its range of smart glasses, including Smart GOLD Lenses(TM) and Smart Frames(TM) for Google Glass and other global brands. Rochester Optical is also showcasing the Chimmm collection as part of a collaboration with celebrated Hong Kong designer Simon Chim. This includes a variety of prescription eyeglass frames for the Google Glass and Vuzix(R) M100.
Focus Areas
Two hundred brands are included in the fair's Brand Name Gallery, including Chrome Hearts (US), Converse (US), Dita (US), Frederic Beausoleil (France), FYSH (UK) (Canada), Hachill (Hong Kong), ic! berlin (Germany), Italia Independent (Italy), Markus-t (Germany), Mykita (Germany), Muzik (Korea), Orgreen (Denmark) and Superdry (UK).
The fair displays the latest styles of frames, spectacles and related products in over a dozen product zones, ranging from kids' eyewear to optometric instruments, equipment and machinery. The show will also host special events, including eyewear parades at the Brand Name Gallery.
Industry Insights
Major industry events are being held during the fair to explore new trends and innovations in the optical industry. The 12th Hong Kong Optometric Conference starting tomorrow adopts the theme of "Development of Optometry for the Future." The two-day conference will feature experts from the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong and Singapore. Seminars on "A Preview of 2015 Trends - a European Optical Fashion Tour", "The Must-Have's in a Pair of Spectacles Today and Selection Techniques" and "Export Regulatory Requirements for Eyewear Products," will take place tomorrow (6 Nov).
Eye-catching Designs
Award-winning designs of the 16th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition are on display throughout the three-day fair. Winner of the Open Group, Siu Wing-kit, based his design concept on a 1970s camera lens. Li Ka-sing was named 1st Runner-up with his design featuring magnetic hinges with changeable temples to suit the wearer's personal preference. In the Student Group category, Wong Hiu-tung took the top prize for her design entitled Infinity, which was inspired by the spectacles worn by the last Chinese emperor Puyi. Chan Chung-yan placed 1st Runner-up with her design entitled Yearning For Childhood.
