More than 70 buying missions with over 2,000 companies from around the world are expected to attend the fair, which adopts the overarching theme of "Leisure in Chateau", embracing the atmosphere of an elegant yet relaxing environment.
Exceptional Growth
This year, the International Wine & Spirits Fair will feature new exhibitors from Belarus, Colombia and Macedonia, alongside such traditional wine producing countries as Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US. Among close to 30 pavilions at the fair, four will be participating for the first time: Australia In Vines Association from the Yarra Valley in Australia, Sichuan Provincial Economic and Information Commission from the Chinese mainland, Rome Chamber of Commerce from Italy, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy of the Republic of Macedonia.
Distilled spirits will enjoy an elevated presence at this year's fair which includes a dedicated Whisky and Spirits Zone for the first time. As part of this zone, there will be a Whisky and Brandy Bar and an Ice Bar which will serve as focal points for information-sharing and cocktail demonstrations. More than 90 exhibitors will showcase spirits at the fair.
Special wines and spirits on display at the fair will include 21 wines from boutique wineries across Italy hand-picked by Anna Fendi, the legendary Italian fashion designer. There will also be an Australian Shiraz by an award-winning winery from Barossa Valley.
Headliners
This year's headline offerings include wines from Macedonia, which is a first-time participant at the Wine & Spirits Fair; a unique Japanese Plum Wine made with sweet underground water from Hyogo Prefecture and British malt; and a rich-tasting Chinese liquor made in a 600-year-old cellar dating back to the Ming Dynasty.
More than 70 special events will be arranged during this year's fair, including the Wine Industry Conference and the sixth Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition Award Presentation Ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by a Gala Wine Dinner, under the theme "Vineyard Wonderland". Renowned wine experts from different countries will speak at various forums and seminars during the three-day fair, including a seminar on "Management Power-up Workshop for F&B Operators - How to Well-utilise Sommelier/Wine Steward Position", and "Asia-Oceania Sommelier Barons Table - Forum on Young Sommelier Development in Asia" by the Hong Kong Sommelier Association, Greater China.
The fair is open to the public (admission HK$200, aged 18 or above only) on Saturday (8 Nov). Public visitors can take part in a number of wine-tasting sessions, master classes and whisky and cocktail demonstrations. Ticket-holders can also attend various seminars to enhance their wine knowledge, including "Things that Wine Enthusiasts Should Know" by Mr Stephen Mack, AIWS, FWS, CEO of Asia Wine Service and Education Centre. The Wines from Spain and Spanish Trade Commission (Hong Kong) will also host a Spanish Fine Wine Tasting Session for the public (admission HK$500).
