Design Competition Winners Unveiled to the Media |
HONG KONG, Feb 24, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Premium quality precious stones, exceptional designs and unique pieces will be featured at the world's largest marketplace for jewellery in Hong Kong next month. The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 4-8 March, while the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show will take place at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) from 2-6 March.

A total of over 4,300 exhibitors from 52 countries and regions are expected to attend the two events, which are organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). This year marks the 32nd edition of the Jewellery Show and the 2nd edition of the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, which is being held separately at AWE.
Strong Asian Presence
Under the theme "Winter Palace" the Jewellery Show features group pavilions representing the Chinese mainland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, alongside those from Germany, Israel, Italy, Peru, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Natural Sparkle
A variety of stunning finished pieces will be displayed at the Jewellery Show with a number of this year's designs inspired by the beauty of nature. These include an intricate diamond and gemstone pendent entitled "A Garden Fair". Elsewhere, yellow diamonds form the centerpiece of a ring inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers masterpiece, while a jadeite collection takes its prompt from a traditional Chinese painting of a pine tree, complete with diamond leaves and sapphire fruit designs. Among the many other eye-catching products on display will be "The Bridges of New York", a collection of 12 pieces inspired by iconic New York landmarks.
Different Settings
New to the Jewellery Show is the inaugural Treasures of Craftsmanship zone which will provide the setting for decorative carvings of gold, silver and precious gems. Among the seven zones returning to the show this year is the Hall of Extraordinary, with a magnificent display of prestigious fine jewels. More than 40 leading international brands will be showcased at the Hall of Fame, while the Antique & Jewellery Galleria, with its selection of exquisite vintage pieces, features 89 exhibitors, up from 57 exhibitors last year.
A Cut Above
Being staged for the second year at AWE, the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show features loose stones and raw materials. Some 1,800 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions including new exhibitors from the Czech Republic will participate in the show, which also includes new group pavilions from Australia, Colombia, and Pakistan.
Precious Stones
Products on display include rare Marquise diamonds, a top-class red topaz specimen of 32 carats valued at US$1 million, a 22.88 carat emerald cut of red diamond valued at US$4.2 million and a Paraiba Tourmaline valued at US$6 million.
Treasure Trove
Making its debut at the show this year is the Treasures of Ocean product zone featuring nine exhibitors showcasing their exquisite pearls. The Hall of Fine Diamonds returns with more than 50 exhibitors showcasing fine carat-size diamonds while the Treasures of Nature zone is dedicated to rare pieces of precious stones.
Trade Insights
Daily seminars will be held during the fair period under such titles as "Achieving Global Success in Jewellery E-tailing Market", "Jewellery Appraisal and Gemstone Standards: Integrity, Authenticity and Consumer Confidence", "Progress in Diamond Treatments, Synthetics and the Challenges in Identification" and "A Year in the Field through the Lens of a Gemologist" featuring Vincent Pardieu, Senior Manager of Field Gemology, a the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Jewellery parades, buyer forums and networking events will be staged throughout the duration of the two events.
Champions Of Design
The winners of the 16th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition were announced at today's press conference. In the Open Group category, Janice Yau won the Best of Show Award and Craftsmanship & Technology Award for her intricate Dandelion bracelet. Best of Show Awards also went to Wong Ho-ian and Jane Li. Lok Ka-ki was crowned Champion in the Student Group category with Gigi Chan named 1st Runner-up and Wong Ka-yan 2nd Runner-up. Meanwhile, the International Jewellery Design Excellence Award Presentation Ceremony will be held alongside the Cocktail Reception on the opening day of the Jewellery Show (4 March).
Quality Assured
The Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China Ltd will launch its new "Natural Diamond Quality Assurance Mark" on 4 March, during the Jewellery Show. The initiative aims to promote consumer confidence and maintain Hong Kong's reputation as the world-class diamond trading hub in Asia.
