BERLIN, Germany, Sept 3, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - Panasonic Europe Ltd. today announced that it will be expanding its VIERA CAST service to include Germany's largest news and entertainment portal, BILD.de, as well as several European TV broadcasters such as ZDF (Germany), NOVA (Czech) and, in the near future, RTVE (Spain). Furthermore, Eurosport will be available in two additional languages (Swedish and Polish). VIERA CAST, which was launched in Europe in May 2009, is available on Panasonic's Z1, V10, and G15 VIERA TVs, enables users to access online content directly from the living room, without the need to use a computer. Current VIERA CAST partners include YouTube, Picasa, Bloomberg, Eurosport and the German news broadcast format ARDTagesschau. Europe's largest daily newspaper, BILD, will offer VIERA CAST users access to contents on its news and entertainment portal BILD.de. From the BILD.de home screen, users can watch video clips from different areas of interest, such as news, politics, entertainment, and sports. Up-to-date news, current results from the German Soccer League and other major sporting events will be accessible at the touch of a button and through the BILD.de news ticker.
As part of a showcase at IFA 2009, German broadcaster ZDF will kick-off its cooperation with Panasonic. For the first time ever, VIERA CAST users will be able to access contents from the ZDF online archive, the ZDFmediathek. News from all over the world as well as a large selection of ZDF broadcasts will be available at the push of a button. The cooperation will initially be conducted as a test program, but both partners intend to make this service permanently available on VIERA CAST capable TVs soon.
TV NOVA, Czech's largest broadcaster, was welcomed as a new VIERA CAST partner in mid-July. Since then, VIERA CAST users in the Czech Republic and Slovakia enjoy access to TV series and other programme contents from TV NOVA's portal nova.cz in the highest quality of digital television broadcasting through VIERA CAST. Furthermore, visitors to the Panasonic booth will get an exclusive preview of 'TVE a la Carta' on demand content from Radio Television Espanola (RTVE), which is currently being tested for VIERA CAST.
"VIERA CAST offers users the unique possibility to access online contents such as news and the latest sports results, but also holiday pictures and online videos from the comfort of their living rooms whenever they want and as often as they want," Fabien Roth, Senior Marketing Manager Panasonic TV Group, explained.
VIERA CAST delivers online content via an Internet connection to Panasonic's Z1, V10, and G15 Series HD TVs as well as Panasonic's 2009 line-up of Blu-ray Disc and DVD players as well as recorders. The technology is complemented by a rich selection of online content that has become available through Panasonic's established partnerships with leading content providers like YouTube, Picasa, Eurosport, Bloomberg and Tagesschau for financial news, and local weather information. Users can simply plug the Ethernet cable into the back of their device in order to get instant access to online content without additional subscriptions or registrations. Switching from a normal TV programme to VIERA CAST is done by pressing the VIERA CAST button on the VIERA TV remote control. Content offerings vary for different local markets, and viewers can select their own language. The viewing experience is greatly enhanced by the ultra-fast response time of the VIERA TVs - ideal for fast-moving sporting images.
