SmartHK Promotion Opens In Jinan
Opportunities for Services Industry Collaboration Spotlighted

HONG KONG, May 27, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - A two-day SmartHK promotion opened with much fanfare today at the Jinan International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Shandong Province. As the first major services industry flagship promotion organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in Shandong, the event has attracted some 200 Hong Kong services companies and institutions representing more than 20 sectors.

SmartHK Promotion Opens In Jinan

The fair promotes Hong Kong services that could help transform and upgrade Chinese mainland enterprises, including design, marketing, management, and innovation technology services. The aim is to promote collaboration between Shandong and Hong Kong companies to explore new partnerships and business opportunities.

In addition to exhibitors from Hong Kong's services sector, the promotion also includes a CEO Forum, 14 thematic seminars, almost 30 workshops, business matching activities and "Original Hong Kong Designs and Products Display Zones".

Matchmaking

The HKTDC has organised more than 100 business delegations and invited about 8,000 visitors to attend SmartHK in Jinan. The visitors come from various sectors, including real estate, hotels and catering as well as manufacturers of household products and home appliances. They represent such well-known institutions and corporations as the Palace Museum, the Haike Group, the Show Long Group, Dashang Co., Ltd., the Greenland Group, the Lushang Group, the Shandong Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd, Inspur Group and the Dahai Group. In addition, business-matching sessions will be organised to facilitate cooperation between companies from Hong Kong and Shandong.

Gregory So, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government; Ji Xiangqi, Vice Governor of Shandong Province and Margaret Fong, Executive Director of the HKTDC officiated at this morning's opening ceremony.

Complementary Advantages

"Economically powerful Shandong has one of the highest GDPs in China and is a major centre for manufacturing and private enterprises," Ms Fong said. "Driven by China's national development strategies, Shandong is currently intensifying efforts to upgrade its traditional industries, nurture emerging ones and quicken the development of modern services industries."

Hong Kong's well-developed services industries have established the city as a world-renowned financial, logistics, innovation and professional services hub in Asia. As such, Shandong and Hong Kong can complement each other in different areas for a win-win result. SmartHK is an ideal platform for enterprises to connect and forge new partnerships.

Ms Fong also highlighted collaboration opportunities brought by the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, particularly in infrastructure development and real estate, with a view to establishing Qingdao as a core city along the proposed 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Shandong companies can also take advantage of Hong Kong's services expertise to improve connectivity with neighbouring provinces as well as markets in ASEAN, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Central Europe.

SmartHK is a signature HKTDC event promoting Hong Kong's services sector in the mainland. Launched in 2011, previous events in Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Nanjing have received a good response. The events have attracted a total of more than 40,000 visits with close to 3,000 business-matching sessions arranged.

SmartHK in Jinan features three major services zones. The Innovative Design and Marketing* zone includes some exhibitors subsidised by the Create Hong Kong office of the Hong Kong SAR Government. The other zones are Management Upgrading and Technological Advancement. The focus is on introducing various Hong Kong services that can help enterprises enhance brand values and raise operational efficiency and competitiveness. By promoting Hong Kong's innovative and practical business solutions, the event highlights ways that the city can help Shandong enterprises upgrade and reach markets overseas.

Smart Business

The CEO forum panel includes business heavyweights such as Philip Chen, Managing Director of Hang Lung Group Limited and Hang Lung Properties Limited; Gordon Lam, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank (China) Limited; Tommy Li, Creative Director of Tommy Li Design Workshop Limited; Samuel Lau, Executive Director of Kerry Logistics (Hong Kong) Limited; and Wang Xingshan, Chief Executive Officer of Inspur Group. Together with guest moderator Royce Yuen, CEO of New Brand New Limited, the panellists offered their insights on the challenges and opportunities of transforming and upgrading enterprises. They also shared practical experiences of Hong Kong enterprises in successfully cracking international markets.

During the event, there will be a total of 14 thematic seminars that address hot issues such as brand creation, marketing, Big Data application, finance, corporate succession, corporate internal control and risk management, logistics and supply chain management and brand licensing.
