Region's Power Industry to Gather in Bangkok for POWER-GEN Asia 2009

BANGKOK, Sept 24, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - POWER-GEN Asia, the region's premier conference and exhibition for the power generation and transmission and distribution industries, will play host to the power industry when it gathers for its annual event, this year being hosted at the IMPACT Exhibition & Convention Centre, Bangkok from 7th to 9th October.

With the full support from the Ministry of Energy, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Provincial Electricity Authority, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation and the Thailand Exhibition & Convention Bureau, POWER-GEN Asia is expected to receive over 6,000 industry professionals from across the region and beyond, to enjoy three days of quality conference content and leading exhibition.

The recession over this last year has seen most countries around the world reduce electricity consumption. With signs of an upturn emerging, the trend for power is for significant increases in demand and capacity, required for both the world's growing population and improving regional economies.

The Thai government is exploring new opportunities to develop efficient power production from gas, hydro, clean coal and nuclear, as well as the rapidly developing renewable energy market, in which Thailand is one of the first countries in Asia to have a policy to encourage generation of power from renewable sources.

Strengthening Energy Security for Sustained Economic Growth

The POWER-GEN Asia conference programme will present a leading line up of over 120 high quality international speakers from across the industry, discussing some of the most important issues facing the industry, economy and environment.

Following this year's conference theme, which looks at future energy security issues, a diverse range of topics will be discussed, from traditional fuel choices and technology, the development of nuclear power, to the future of green and renewable power generation, discussed in the parallel Renewable Energy World Asia conference.

Opening Keynote Session - Wednesday 7th October - 9am

The Opening Keynote Session will include Wannarat Charnnukul, Minister of Energy for Thailand, Sombat Sarntijaree, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and Dong-Soo Suh, Executive Vice President Power Plant Business Group from Korean engineering giant, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. Ltd.

Conference Director, Nigel Blackaby, said, "We are delighted at the high quality of this year's conference programme and the diverse nature of the topics of discussion. We are also honoured to be joined by our highly respected keynote speakers who will offer an interesting and informative opening session, open to all event delegates and visitors, and commence or three days of debate and discussion."

"With many leading industry players and shapers presenting papers at the conference, POWER-GEN Asia is the place to be from 7th to 9th October, where the power and energy industry professionals can learn and discover the latest information, news and developments to enhance their knowledge and skills," said Blackaby.

The POWER-GEN Asia exhibition provides a showcase opportunity to companies offering products and services to the power generation and transmission and distribution industries and will feature over 170 exhibitors - a new record for the event - and an exhibition floor nearly twice the size of POWER-GEN Asia when it was last held in Thailand in 2007.

The exhibition provides the power industry professional the ideal opportunity to discover and see, first hand, new technologies, the latest products and services on offer, talk to like-minded individuals and meet peers at the most important annual meeting place for international power executives with interests in thASEAN region.

The Ministry of Energy have announced they will be launching a new book at POWER-GEN Asia, entitled "Thailand's Renewable Energy and its Energy Future : Opportunities & Challenges", written by Dr.Weerawat Chantanakome - the Ministry's energy policy expert.

Glenn Ensor, Event Director for POWER-GEN Asia, said, "We are extremely grateful for the support provided by the Ministry of Energy, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Provincial Electricity Authority, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation and the Thailand Exhibition & Convention Bureau.
