World Of Words

Under the theme, "Reading the World - Love at First Book", the fair welcomes a bevy of leading international writers including Swiss author Alain de Botton, British historian and novelist Simon Sebag Montefiore and biographer and journalist Carol Thatcher as well as Booker Prize-winner Ben Okri. The Book Fair's biggest-ever Japan Pavilion is showcasing literature and cultural products from Niigata, Wakayama, Kitakyushu, Hyogo, Gifu and Obihiro. A traditional Japanese Rakugo master Katsura Sunshine is performing Rakugo stories in English to audiences, with an extra show added tomorrow morning (10.30am to 11.15am) inside the Japan Pavilion. Meanwhile, the Latin American Pavilion is jointly organised by Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Colombia.

In The Writing Zone

A variety of themed zones are set up to entice book lovers of all ages and interests, from children's books to spirituality and e-books to multimedia. New to the fair this year is the Cultural Gift zone. The English Avenue zone features more than 30 exhibitors including Commercial Press, Metrobooks, Swindon and PageOne. Other zones include Chinese Mainland Publishers and Taiwan Publishing Community, while the International Cultural Village includes contributions from various foreign consulates and associations.
