ASUS Qualifies Motherboards with the EuP Mark in Support of Sustainable Environmental Practices

TAIPEI, TW, Oct 6, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - ASUS, the leading provider of innovative digital solutions and a company with a strong environmental focus, has once again met international standards in environmental protection by adhering to the Energy-using Power (EuP) standards for its new motherboards. This move reaffirms ASUS' commitment to being a responsible manufacturer, delivering components which exert minimal adverse effects on the earth and its resources. Additionally, it is testament to ASUS' active support of the green movement.
Fulfilling EuP Requirements with Eco-friendly Designs

First adopted by the Council and the European Parliament in November 2005, the EuP directive establishes a framework for setting eco-design requirements for EU nations. As 80% of a product's environmental impact is determined by its design, eco-design aims to curb negative effects by considering how a product affects the earth before its inception?t its design stage. EuP-certified products comply with energy and resource consumption standards; follow restrictions on air, water, soil, and noise pollution; adhere to waste production and radiation emission guidelines; and can be feasibly recycled. Both consumers and manufacturers stand to benefit from EuP goods because of its unrestricted movement across EU borders, enhanced quality, and better environmental protection.

Achieving the Goal of a Safer Environment with More Sustainable Practices

ASUS developed the first lead-free motherboard in 2004 and introduced Taiwan's first Green Parts Management System to help eliminate the use of toxic chemicals throughout the entire manufacturing process. As an active proponent of green design, green procurement, green manufacturing, and green service and marketing; ASUS seeks to ensure that its solutions support sustainable environmental practices such as the eco-labeling EU Flower; the Electronic Products Environment Assessment Tool (EPEAT) to limit levels of cadmium, lead, and mercury in components; and Energy Star specifications for efficient energy use. Improving energy efficiency is an important goal in ASUS' green drive. As such it has enabled PC system builders to comply with Energy Star 5.0 standards with its exceptionally efficient motherboard designs. By developing energy-efficient products, ASUS is helping reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and ensure a more sustainable way forward into the future.
