GENEVE, CH, Feb 12, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - ST-Ericsson, a global leader in wireless platforms and semiconductors, today announced that HTC Corporation is leveraging its TD-SCDMA technology in China for future smartphones.
To give people in China a wide selection of high-speed broadband handsets, HTC and ST-Ericsson, are developing both advanced mobile handsets, capable of providing users with the ultimate multimedia mobile experience, and low-cost models. The first phone developed through the collaboration was launched in December 2009. "ST-Ericsson's TD-SCDMA technology is enabling us to develop key smartphones for the Chinese markets," said Fred Liu, chief operating officer, HTC Corporation. "Smartphone adoption in China is skyrocketing and we're able to deliver a strong product line-up."
"This new collaboration with HTC broadens the range of our partnerships with top manufacturers at the forefront of innovation," said Pascal Langlois, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at ST-Ericsson. "HTC has been a leading adopter of open operating systems and we are looking forward to further supporting its efforts in China." The handsets being developed by the two companies are based on ST-Ericsson's new and existing platforms, such as the M7210, which is capable of dual-mode automatic handover between TD-HSPA and EDGE. The M7210 has been optimized to run multimedia-rich smartphone applications, enabling handset makers great flexibility and scalability in product development.
