HONG KONG, July 20, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - Hua Hong Semiconductor Ltd ("Hua Hong Semiconductor" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries, the "Group"; 1347.HK), a global leading pure-play 200mm foundry, today announced that it will leverage its expertise in IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) technology to tap potentials in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market and accelerate the local production of chips for NEVs.
IGBT, a core device of the new-generation energy conversion and control, features high input impedance, small drive power, simple control circuit, small switching loss, fast on-off speed and high operating frequency and it is widely applied in NEV, industrial drive, smart grid, wind and solar power industries. Since its commercial rollout, IGBT has become a mainstay among the new power semiconductor devices, playing an instrumental role in applications with a frequency range of 1~100kHz, voltage range of 400V~6500V, and current ratings of 1A~3600A.
Hua Hong Semiconductor, the world's first 200mm foundry delivering technologies for volume production of Field-Stop (FS) IGBT, succeeded in ramp-up of 1200V non-punch-through (NPT) IGBT from its 200mm production line in 2011, and 600V-1200V FS IGBT in 2013, and remains committed to developing more sophisticated FS IGBT.
