CG Overdrive Undergoes Metamorphosis; Definitive Computer Graphics Event Evolves to Offer More to Rapidly Growing Asian CG Industry

SINGAPORE, Apr 1, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - The computer graphics (CG) industry in Asia has been progressing at a phenomenal tempo. Guided by the international community, backed by strong government initiatives and fuelled by the passion of an expanding intelligentsia, professionals in Asia have been making footprints in global blockbusters and hit video games. CG Overdrive has been a constant driver of the industry in this growing up years.

In its fifth edition, CG Overdrive 2010 is aptly themed "Revolutions" and will go through some significant upgrades to keep pace with the community's changing needs. The event retains its emphasis as a content and knowledge-rich platform, featuring highly regarded speakers from across the globe. "This year, CG Overdrive promises a more dynamic and vibrant enhancement to our core philosophy as a knowledge-centric event. One key development is that 36 focused track sessions have been produced to provide increasingly specialised professionals in the region with focused know-how," explained Mr Lai Kok Sen, Chairman, CG Overdrive.

"In a bid to make CG Overdrive more accessible to professionals, the event will be held over the weekend from Friday to Sunday in the heart of the city," adds Lai. The event will be held at Suntec Singapore from 18 - 20 June 2010. It is organised by 3dsense Media School and Singapore Exhibition Services. Other new developments include the introductions of the 20-Hours Speed Modelling Challenge and CGO Concept Design Challenge.

Enhanced professional tracks by high profile speakers

As the flagship conference for the CG industry, CG Overdrive will offer a unique assemblage of heavy-weights from the industry. Driven by the increasing demand for broader choice of in-depth topics across the CG arena, the event will see a total of 36 CG Tracks. The CG Tracks allow delegates to learn the newest techniques, and share knowledge and methods with prominent speakers from internationally renowned studios. Rookies and experts alike can looks forward to learning advanced skills and knowledge in their respective fields that are relevant to their own needs. The contacts and networks established will also prove invaluable in their careers.

The 36 CG Tracks comprise a good spread of content, in both breadth and depth in the Games and Films Development pipeline. There will also be business tracks allocated for the producing of films and games. The Topics will range from 2D Concept development and, Modelling for films & games, Visual effects, Storytelling, Animation, Rigging, Programming for Games, MMORPG to open source projects development and more.

20-Hours Speed Modelling Challenge "LIVE"

The CG Overdrive Live Modelling Challenge provides an arena where elite modelers gather to sculpt out a fully textured character using Zbrush sculpting software. This 20-hours speed modeling challenge will see competitors model for 3 consecutive days. The concept art works will be submitted in advance and will be used as reference materials for the build up of the actual CG Model. The final output will be judged by elite CG professionals at the end of 3 days and the Top 3 Winners will walk away with attractive prizes.

CGO Concept Design Challenge

The inaugural CGO Concept Design Challenge at CG Overdrive 2010 will see the best design used as concept artwork for the Live Modelling Challenge. Interested participants will be required to submit a human character concept design/artwork based on the theme "Medieval Settings". Submitted works will be judged and seen by some of the best eyes and minds of the concept design professionals in the industry.

CG Overdrive is part of the week-long Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX) event, Asia's largest infocomm and media event.
