Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Drives Digital Transformation by Collaborating with OSIsoft & Microsoft Red Carpet Incubation Program
MHPS-TOMONI digital solutions to be showcased at Hannover Messe 2017

Hanover, Germany, Apr 25, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd. (MHPS) and OSIsoft announced today that they are teaming up to enhance the capabilities of MHPS-TOMONI; a revolutionary new digital solutions platform that supports thermal power plant operations.

As part of the announcement it was revealed that MHPS-TOMONI will be part of Red Carpet Incubation Program (RCIP), developed by OSIsoft and Microsoft. RCIP utilizes PI Integrator for Microsoft Azure, an application which has the ability to automatically clean, prepare and transmit PI System data to Microsoft's Cloud Platform. This helps reduce the burden involved in data preparation, lowering the total time, cost and energy consumed, as compared with traditional data analytics methods and business applications.

MHPS is set to further boost its digital transformation for thermal energy producers, helping power plant owners to minimize unplanned downtime and increase asset performance.

By using the trusted OSIsoft PI System and Azure, MHPS is able to build a secure, scalable platform to support the needs of its customers in a short period of time. MHPS's collaboration with OSIsoft and Microsoft enables it to lower costs while also seamlessly connecting real-time data from operations with analytics and business applications in order to expedite the data analytics processes. The result is more reliable and efficient power generation.

"MHPS is joining with trusted partners like OSIsoft and Microsoft around the globe to enhance the MHPS-TOMONI platform with applications that will further increase customer value. We are harnessing big data to enhance plant performance, improve availability, and meet key performance metrics that are crucial to driving success," said Akimasa Muyama, Chief Technology Officer, MHPS.

A digital power plant requires a robust information infrastructure to leverage the massive amount of data that is generated during plant operations. OSIsoft is a proven pioneer and market leader in managing big data to support operational intelligence. As part of this strategic alliance, MHPS, OSIsoft and Microsoft will collaborate to integrated digital solutions that add intelligence to power plants around the world, using best-in-class software and leveraging their respective knowledge and expertise.

"Data preparation is a necessary first step in analytics, but it consumes inordinate amounts of time and energy," said Prabal Acharyya, WW Director of IoT Analytics for OSIsoft. "We are delighted to collaborate with MHPS and Microsoft to help accelerate cloud-based advanced analytics solutions for thermal power industry through RCIP."

MHPS-TOMONI, a revolutionary new digital solutions platform designed by MHPS, devises tailor-made methods to optimize power plant operations, based on an inclusive, collaborative and 'customer first' approach. The platform will be showcased by MHPS at the Hannover Messe trade show from April 24-28, 2017 (Hall 7, Booth #C40).

Moving forward, MHPS is committed to exploring new opportunities to collaborate with partners, building on its extensive knowledge, experience and understanding of customers as a power plant equipment OEM to provide unparalleled offerings for the thermal power industry.

"Microsoft is proud of its continued collaboration with OSIsoft to support our customers seeking greater value from their data," said Joseph Sirosh, Corporate Vice President, Data Group, Microsoft. "With RCIP, OSIsoft and Microsoft are helping Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems bridge the OT-IT gap and help their power industry customers get valuable insights from the PI System and Microsoft Cortana Intelligence."
