Toyota Becomes Japan Boccia Association Gold Partner and Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation Official Sponsor

Toyota City, Japan, May 2, 2017 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation announced today that it has signed a Gold Partner agreement with the Japan Boccia Association and an official sponsorship agreement with the Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation.

Sharing the commitment of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to achieve a more-inclusive society for people with impairments through Paralympic competition, Toyota signed an official sponsorship agreement with the IPC in 2015 to serve as a Worldwide Paralympic Partner Sponsor. Toyota decided to support the Japan Boccia Association and the Japan Wheelchair Basketball Federation with the aim of contributing to improved recognition and proliferation of Paralympic competition.

Boccia is a sport in which even people with severe impairments, such as cerebral palsy, can participate and a sport that many people can enjoy together, regardless of gender or age or whether one is impaired or not. Meanwhile, wheelchair basketball has a great number of Paralympic participants and enjoys a wide base that includes leagues even for players without impairments, as well as university federations. Toyota decided to support both sports because it views them as transcending the boundaries between athletes with and without impairments and being able to widely spread the joy and excitement of sports among many kinds of people.

In conjunction with the sponsorships announced today, with a desire to learn from athletes about teamwork, fair play and the spirit and approach of never giving up, Toyota plans to encourage its employees to cheer on competitors and serve as event volunteers; to conduct awareness activities at sales outlets; and to consider, among others, assisting in athlete mobility during competitions. By using such actions to gradually change its immediate environment, such as in the form of its employees' thinking and actions, Toyota hopes to be able to contribute to the achievement of a society in which all people can participate.
