Public Seminar "Explore Your Future" under the Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Insurance Sector was Successfully Held Today
Promotes Public Awareness of the Insurance Industry and Presents Industry Potential

HONG KONG, July 8, 2017 - (ACN Newswire) - The Public Seminar "Explore Your Future" jointly organised by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and the Vocational Training Council (VTC) was successfully held today. The seminar aims to introduce to parents and young people the different professional positions, interesting work experiences, career paths and prospects of the insurance sector, especially in the middle and back office, thereby enabling the public to have a deeper understanding of the career opportunities and development potential in the insurance industry.

The seminar featured veterans from the middle and back office positions of insurance companies, including Mr. Barry Chan, Secretary of Professional Insurance Brokers Association and Ms Tiffany Lung, Director of MI Insurance Brokers Ltd. They shared their work experiences and career paths with parents and young people to deepen their understanding of the business scope, industry development and entrance requirements of the insurance industry and to clear up common misconceptions about the industry. Mrs Mak Ho Siu Kuen, famous parenting book author, and Ms Alison Chang, an experienced executive search professional, also shared with the participants their parenting tips and the key considerations of teenagers in their pursuit of studies and career development. Ms Chang also analysed the local career trends and the great development potential of the insurance industry in Hong Kong.

The insurance industry, with ample career development opportunities, is one of the most rapidly expanding business sectors in Hong Kong in terms of its manpower demand. With a long renowned history of 170 years, there are about 160 authorised insurers in Hong Kong at present with more than 100,000 corporate and individual insurance intermediaries. They offer diverse insurance and risk management services, making the industry one of the key pillars of Hong Kong's financial service sector.

The Public Seminar "Explore Your Future" is an activity of the Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Insurance Sector ("Pilot Programme"), a three-year programme launched by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau. The Pilot Programme introduces to the general public, students and in-service practitioners the professionalism of and diversified career opportunities in the insurance industry. The Pilot Programme particularly emphasises promotional activities that target students and graduates, so as to equip them with a comprehensive knowledge on the different functional layers and career prospects of the insurance industry, and thereby attracting them into the industry. Through different initiatives, the programme seeks to attract talents to join the middle and back office of the industry and to deepen young people's understanding on this front, as well as to enhance the professional knowledge of in-service practitioners.
