HONG KONG, Jan 19, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - The Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2011 awards ceremony took place last night, with Eva Cheng named the Overall Winner. Ms Cheng will work in Paris, at Rue du Mail, for a month. Some of the winning designs will be on display at Joyce Boutique (Admiralty shop).

Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest Winners Announced

The winners of the 35th Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2011 are:

- Overall Winner: Eva Cheng: "Fragments of the Sky"

- Casual & Jeans-Wear Group Winner: Angela Ng: "The Black Sheep"

- Contemporary Day-Wear Group Winner: Mag Choy: "Inanimate Infection"

- Party & Evening-Wear Group Winner: Zoe Li: "Jugendstil"

"I'm thrilled with this honour," said Ms Cheng. "It is a golden opportunity to work in Rue du Mail; it will definitely broaden my horizon. I hope I will have my own brands some day." Her collection, "Fragments of the Sky," was inspired by the cityscape of Hong Kong and took her six months to complete. "The most difficult part," she said, "was cutting and sewing the fabric precisely."
International Panel

The judging panel included industry experts, media representatives and renowned local and overseas designers.

Vincent Fang, Chairman of the HKTDC Garment Advisory Committee, was Chief Judge. VIP judge was Martine Sitbon, Creative Director of Rue du Mail. Joining them were Angelica Cheung, Editorial Director of Vogue China; Bonita Cheung, designer of Tassels; Jimmy Chan, Chairman and CEO of Semeiotics; Lawrence Leung, Managing Director of the Sun Hing Knitting Factory Ltd; Martin Lee, Chief Designer of RMC Martin Ksohoh; and Michael Mok, Divisional Merchandise Manager, Joyce Boutique Ltd.

Creativity, originality, market potential, craftsmanship, wearability, the use of colour and fabric and overall visual impact were the main judging criteria.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), YDC has discovered many talented designers over the years, including: Billy Leung, Kevin Ng, Harrison Wong and Mountain Yam. All four took part in the evening's finale performance, "Phantom Play."

The Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2011 is one of the highlights of HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong, and HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter. The two events, organised by the HKTDC, continue through Thursday (20 January).
