Marcus Evans Presented Global Bank Risk Conference in Singapore

SINGAPORE, Jan 28, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Global Bank Risk hosted by Marcus Evans on 24th & 25th January at Fairmont Hotel, Singapore zeroed in on the changes to the banking regulatory landscape. The conference brought together experts from the regulators and the banking industry alike to debate and discuss risk management practices post crisis. Delegates gained insights on the key solutions to address the key challenges currently facing the banking industry. The event provided a perfect platform to prepare banking risk professionals for the challenges ahead and thereby gain an edge in this highly competitive market.

The credit crisis has forced banks to critically examine how they manage risk and has exposed some significant weaknesses in risk management across the financial services industry. With the collapse of several prominent banks, the bailout of numerous others and their subsequent efforts to raise capital, the effects of the crisis are far reaching and the impact to risk management for the banking industry, never greater.

In response to the crisis, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision from the Bank for International Settlements has created a new set of amendments to the existing Basel II Accord. These new regulations call for greater capital to be held in reserve, stronger credit management processes and improvements in liquidity risk management in order to strengthen and create a more prudently managed and resilient financial industry.

Resultant to this, the agenda of the conference covered a choice of four streams over two days including Credit Risk Modelling & Management I & II and Liquidity Risk Management I & II.

Top speakers who presented at this conference were Hiromi Yamaoka, Associate Director-General, Financial System and Bank Examination Department of the Bank of Japan, Former Alternative Executive Director of International Monetary Fund; Simon Hills, Executive Director - Prudential Capital, Risk & Regulatory Relationships of British Bankers Association, UK and Chairman - Basel Working Group, International Banking Federation; Paul Harrald, Head of Group Portfolio Risk of Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore; Philippe Jaccard, MD & Asia Head of Liquidity & Investments of Citigroup, Hong Kong; John Miller, Director Asia Pacific of First Derivatives; Kavita Venugopal, Group President & Chief Risk Officer of Yes Bank, India; Jaime Azcoiti, EVP & Director of Risks of CITIC Bank International, Hong Kong; Richard Bennett, Unit President, Europe & Americas of Razor Risk Technologies, Australia; Dato' Lee Kok Kwan, Deputy CEO & Head, Group Treasury & Investments of CIMB Group, Malaysia and Matthew Hosford, Chief Risk Officer, Asia Pacific of Banco Santander, Hong Kong.
