Thomson Reuters Launches Next-Generation Professional News Offerings
Reuters powers new services for science, legal, tax and accounting pros

NEW YORK, N.Y., Mar 7, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, is launching a suite of news products designed for the information needs of professionals in the legal, tax and accounting, and science markets. Combining the world-class journalism of Reuters with the analysis and rich content available through products like Westlaw and Checkpoint, these offerings bring to customers unmatched insight into the topics shaping their profession, and the context to make the right decisions for their business.

"There is no shortage of online 'news', and the sheer volume of it can hamper decision-making and limit innovation," said Jim Smith, CEO of the Professional Division of Thomson Reuters. "By pairing the journalistic excellence of Reuters with the power of our Professional content and workflow tools, we are offering insight and authority that cut through the clutter and inspire innovation, ideas and action."

Stephen Adler, editor-in-chief of Reuters News and former editor of The American Lawyer and BusinessWeek, as well as former deputy managing editor at The Wall Street Journal, is leading the build-out of news teams to cover areas such as litigation, tax policy and intellectual property law.

"We're putting news at the heart of our business," said Adler. "Already, news teams are working closely with Thomson Reuters Professional businesses to intelligently connect news, data and documents into valuable information solutions for customers, served up via smart phones, tablets and desktop products, to help them be even more productive, effective and successful."

Thomson Reuters has just launched with CQ Roll Call a new e-mail publication, This Week in Healthcare, targeted to healthcare executives and industry leaders. At Thomson Reuters News & Insight: Legal, journalists are covering litigation topics including securities and bankruptcy and are ramping up coverage of the trends and personalities driving global law. Journalists are working with editorial teams focused on building current awareness and other legal news content that Westlaw subscribers, especially litigators, use every day to inform their courtroom strategies and sharpen their arguments. This content, integrated with Westlaw Litigator case law, expert analysis, trial documents, jury verdicts and workflow tools, provides a dynamic, integrated litigation solution unlike any product offering currently available. A News & Insight online service, featuring exclusive journalism, research and analysis for tax and accounting clients, is also in development and scheduled for release later this year.

"The goal is to give our customers a much deeper understanding of their professions," Adler said. "We see a great opportunity to bring professional news to our customers in powerful new ways by focusing on the confluence of information, insight and workflow, which is precisely where our subscribers will gain a profound competitive advantage in serving their clients."
