BEIJING, May 3, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - China and other regions of Asia are endowed with some of the most significant and potentially high quality unconventional gas resources. A recent report published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates the technically recoverable resource of China's shale gas alone at over 36,000 bcm (1275 tcf), representing over 400 years of natural gas supply based on China's current consumption level. This tremendous opportunity has the government of China seeking additional foreign investment to develop these resources and IOC's as well as independent operators are jumping at the chance to secure their places in such a promising market.
And with China completing its first horizontal shale gas well on March 31, Global Unconventional Gas 2011: Unlocking Your Potential couldn't have come at a better time. Organised by the US-based Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and Gastech, Global Unconventional Gas is an international conference and workshop designed to stimulate the economic potential from unconventional resources, taking place September 12-14 in Beijing. Building upon a successful 2010 event in Amsterdam, Global Unconventional Gas 2011 is anticipated to attract several hundred regional and international attendees for an ideal knowledge-sharing, networking and business development opportunity. This year, the event once again has the support of the International Gas Union (IGU) and the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA).
One of the global energy industry's most recognisable public figures, Dr Michael J. Economides, is to speak at the event on 13th September 2011. Addressing a mix of international and regional delegates, Dr. Economides will tackle the subject of 'Unconventional Gas Challenges and Opportunities', addressing the technical challenges and history of shale drilling, the economic potential for the Chinese natural gas market in utilising its unconventional gas resources, and the challenges ahead that must be met for the full potential of this opportunity to be achieved.
Currently Editor-in-Chief of Energy Tribune, Dr. Economides has worked in the field of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for over 25 years and is a global authority on reservoir stimulation and horizontal drilling.
