6th World Water Forum "Time for Solutions" at the Singapore International Water Week

SIWW, Singapore, July 6, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - During the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), the International Forum Committee will organize a side event to present the 6th World Water Forum that is going to be hosted in Marseille, France on March 12th-17th, 2012. The World Water Forum is one of the largest international events related to water, sanitation and sustainable development, which has been organized every three years since 1997.

The President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, mentioned that "the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille would be a crucial rendez-vous as water issue is critical to the future of our planet. The time for solutions has come for water, as it has for sanitation. From now on, we have to apply concrete measures and make firm commitments. These commitments should be made on a voluntary basis by all stakeholders," said the President of France.

For achieving the above-mentioned goals, the regional process was initiated for preparing the 6th World Water Forum. Several regional synthesis meetings have been organized in the world, including the Asia-Pacific.

During the side-event session on July 5th 2011 in Room 2020 at the Sentec Convention Center, the President of the International Forum Committee and Vice-President of the World Water council, Prof. Benedito Braga, will explain the concept of "Time for solutions". Moreover, Eun-Kyung Park, President of the Korea Water Forum and President of the 6th World Water Forum Regional Process Commission, will present the Asia-Pacific Regional Process.

The SEAWMF is a platform where Ministers come together to share their experiences on topics relating to water management in South East Asia countries.

Moreover, a synthesis meeting with regional stakeholders will be organized on July 9th by the Asia-Pacific Water Forum, a critical regional partner of the 6th World Water Forum. The meeting aims at presenting the Asia-Pacific Regional Process, exchanging on regional targets, and calling for submitting case studies about the existing and innovative solutions to achieve the regional targets. This meeting offers a good opportunity to regional stakeholders to learn about the Forum's preparation process and the way to make a contribution.
