Second edition of Vietnam Barista Competition will return to showcase local baristas' expertise, creativity and talents as they vie for title of top coffee barista |
HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM, Aug 26, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Successfully launched in 2009, the Vietnam Barista Competition (VBC) will return for a second edition at Food&HotelVietnam2011, held this year at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre (SECC) from 28 - 30 September 2011. The competition, organised by Singapore Exhibition Services (SES) and Kerry Ingredients, is a highly recognised platform for Vietnam's top baristas to demonstrate their expertise, creativity and talents in front of a 'live' audience. The best of Vietnamese baristas will battle for the title of the country's champion, with the winner receiving a cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to Singapore to represent Vietnam at the Asia Barista Championship in 2012.
This event is also an opportunity for professionals in gourmet coffee industry to interact and exchange ideas, and boost the development of the barista profession in Vietnam. The competition will be judged by an international panel of accredited as well as local judges, with one Head Judge, four Sensory Judges and two Technical Judges who will evaluate each participating competitor.
This year's head judge, Justin Metcalf, is a World Barista Judge(TM), and one of Australia's most recognised coffee and cafe consultants. His goal is to empower aspiring baristas with the knowledge, skill and passion for espresso second to none. Justin was officially certified as a World Barista Championship International Judge in Trieste, Italy in 2004. He began his barista judging career nationally in 2000 and has since travelled all over the world judging barista competitions. With his presence at VBC, competitors will not only be inspired but will have the opportunity to engage and learn from a top industry veteran.
The Vietnam Barista Competition adheres to standards of the most prestigious international barista competitions, whereby competitors have to prepare three sets of beverages. This includes four cups of espressos, four cups of cappuccinos and four cups of their own blended signature coffee drink. All sets of beverages have to be completed in the allocated time of 15 minutes. This means that competitors will be challenged technically and creatively as they will have to demonstrate their talents and originality in a beverage creation that sets them apart from the others.
Vietnam's most comprehensive food and hospitality event for the business and industry communities
The biennial Food&HotelVietnam2011, Vietnam's leading food and hospitality trade show, is organised by SES and Vietnam partner VCCI Exhibition Service. In its sixth edition, the event will see over 360 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions gather to showcase the latest products and services from the international food and hospitality industry.
Poised to occupy 8,880 square metres at SECC, the event will boast a 26 per cent increase from its previous edition in 2009, and a bigger international presence featuring 14 group pavilions from Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Korea (7), Singapore and U.S.A, with a new pavilion from Poland. This is compared to just nine pavilions in 2009.
"The growth of this year's exhibition is testament to our commitment to ensure Food&HotelVietnam stays relevant and constantly developing to meet the needs of Vietnam's food and hospitality industry. With an increase in exhibition space this year, visitors can expect to see even more products and services from key industry players around the globe," said Ms. Ting Siew Mui, Project Director for Food&HotelVietnam from SES.
Other exciting competitions at the event
"To add more depth to the event, and to serve the barista, chef and sommelier professions, we have complemented the exhibition with three competitions - the Vietnam Barista Competition, Vietnam Culinary Challenge and Vietnam's Best Sommelier Competition (organised by Sopexa - the official marketing and promotions arm for French food and wine) - to boost Vietnam's progression and development of professionals in those fields," added Ms. Ting.
The Vietnam Culinary Challenge has been recognised by Vietnam's culinary community as an important arena for chefs to demonstrate their culinary skills and techniques in nine competition categories, which include Dress A Cake, Fruit & Vegetable Carving and Vietnamese Cuisine. Organised by the Saigon Professional Chefs Guild, the competition is now in its fourth edition and promises an exhilarating show for competitors and spectators alike.
Vietnam's Best Sommelier Competition 2011 will be held for the first time at Food&HotelVietnam2011. Organised by Sopexa, the event will be held on 28 September at SECC.
